OPEN CALL FOR NEW ANTHOLOGY OF LOVE POEMS

What does ‘love’ mean? How does it reveal itself? How is it portrayed or understood in contemporary Ireland? How has the nature of love changed in recent decades – through social reforms, changes in legislation, with the proliferation of digital media and online connections? What rituals are entirely new, what others remain virtually unchanged? In short, what does a 21st century Irish love poem look like?

Continuing our long-established practice of producing innovative, engaging anthologies that shine a light on the changing nature of Irish life, Dedalus Press will shortly announce details of an open call for submissions for a new anthology of love poems.

Submissions are invited from emerging as well as established poets. We warmly welcome submissions from women, people of colour, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and people with disabilities. We’re looking for the best poems, and hoping for the widest, most inclusive view of who and where we are.

Editors Leeanne Quinn and Joseph Woods will take on the mammoth task of reading and choosing from your submissions on the subject of love — poems traditional and experimental, quiet-spoken and declarative, timeless poems that focus on lovers (to the exclusion of all else) as well as poems that admit in the background glimpses of the world (and Ireland) as it is today.

Poems may be previously published in journals, magazines, or various broadcast formats (radio, Facebook, YouTube etc.) so long as copyright is still held by the poet. Poems may not have previously appeared in book form.

Poets must be over 18 years of age, born on the island of Ireland (i.e. south or north) or presently residing there. Poems longer than 40 lines will not be considered. Dedaus Press is an English-language publisher but we welcome poems in Irish so long as they are accompanied by an English-language translation.

For full details, see the submissions page on www.dedaluspress.com from 01 February 2022, or sign up to the website's Mailing List.

For now, wishing a HAPPY NEW YEAR to all our friends and supporters, poets and readers, here in Ireland and elsewhere.
To stretch the holidays a little after an energy-taxing year, we've decided to hold off on our annual sale until 01 February too. So keep your eyes peeled for the best deals on the best of contemporary poetry from Ireland and the world.
