In 2015, California desert dwellers Barbara and Patrick decided that they had one last big adventure in them and purchased a home in Cahersiveen, County Kerry, Ireland. Ever wondered what it's really like to live overseas?

Life in a literary land... I had already picked up a few books at Quirkes here in town when I spied a copy of Demon Copperhead at Eason in Tralee. Zero VAT tax, only €11.99, and available in Ireland in paperback four months before it's available in the States? Time to add one more book in the stack.

More from Tim and Ambrose on Radio Kerry. Had to share because it proves I'm not nuts for all the times I listened to their sports broadcasts and mistook "point" as "pint."

I was sitting at the dining room table Friday afternoon, working on my spring stock-up shopping list. I hear a noise that sounded like the front door opening. I wasn't expecting anyone, but if a friend was letting themselves in, there'd be a knock and a hello. Nothing. Another door sound. Now I jump up, calling out "hello?" and popping around the corner to the door. I see that a small package has been slipped inside the entry. My relief that I wasn't about to be robbed or bludgeoned was quickly replaced with a sense that I should have an Irish response to this situation instead of an American one, so I opened the door, smiled and waved my thanks to the departing postman.

To put it mildly, my knowledge of the GAA and Gaelic football is limited, but I completely appreciate its value as an Irish cultural institution. I love how the Radio Kerry presenters get caught up in the emotion more than the play-by-play. I have no idea what's happening here, but apparently Seanie O'Shea did something awesome...and on to the All Ireland Championship finals!
