Taraba Commissioner for Science moves to sustain unity, organizes football competition amongst tarabans

Taraba State Commissioner for Science and Technology Hon Muslim Usman Aruwan presents trophy to the winning team, FC Young Stars. Behind him is Taraba NFA chairman, Mr Timothy Heman

The Commissioner for Science and Technology, Hon Muslim Usman Aruwan has been making Frantic efforts towards sustaining the peaceful coexistence of the people of Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State.

As part of the efforts, the Honerable Commissioner has organized a Football Competion, Code named “Peace and Unity Cup 2023″ which was played between various football clubs across the 10 council wards of the Local Government.

The exciting exercise which climaxed at Mutum Biyu, the administrative headquarters of the Local Government, featured a final match between FC Ademola And FC Young Stars at GDSS Mutum Biyu Football Field.

The keenly competed final match, which ended in penalty shoot out, yielded a total of 4 goals for FC Young Stars, the winning team, while FC Ademola ended up with only 3 goals to emerged second position.

Adressing throng of people that turned up to witness the epoc making event, the Taraba State Commissioner for Science and Technology, Hon. Muslim Usman Aruwan said the idea of the competition was conceived to unite the people, identify talented persons amongst the youth and to also engaged youths meaningfully in order to actualized the Moving Forward Agenda of His Excellency Dr Agbu Kefas administration.

The Commissioner advised youths in the Area to maintain decorum and acceptable behaviours.

The executive chairman of Lokoja Local Government Council, Hon. Muhammed Danasabe Muhammed, has reportedly died.

Blueprint gathered that Hon. Danasabe passed away in the early hours of Friday at Shifa Hospital Lokoja, after a brief illness.

According to a family source, the deceased will be buried at the Unguwan Kura Muslim cemetery after the juma’a prayer.

The late council boss was popular for his vibrant roles in previous elections and his death will be a major setback for the ruling All Progressives Congress in the Saturday gubernatorial election in Lokoja local government area.

He is survived by his mother, wife and children.

There have been growing indications that some governors in the country are governing their people from outside of their states.

Some of them allegedly govern their states from the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and other parts of the world.

According to a report by The Press, residents of these states, and several residents and stakeholders are complaining about the attitudes of these governors, noting that their absence from the states negates the principle of good governance

The report also revealed that most of these governors do not hand over to their deputies but prefer to make most of the decisions of the state from wherever they are, flouting the constitutional provision that stipulates that a governor has a statutory duty to sit and ensure lives and property are secured and protected. He is not expected to stay outside then state for more than two weeks because he is the Chief Security Officer of his state.

A Federal High Court, Abuja, on Thursday, struck down some “offending provisions” which takes away the right of appeal of a tax debtor.



Specifically, the affected provisions include the Tax Appeal Tribunal (Procedure) Rules (2021), the Federal High Court of Nigeria (Federal Inland Revenue Service) Practice Directions (2021) and the Federal High Court of Nigeria (Tax Appeals) Rules (2022).

Justice James Omotosho, in a judgment, held that the provisions were unconstitutional as they constrained the constitutionally provided right of appeal.

The first provision voided by the court was Order III Rule (6) (a) of the Tax Appeal Tribunal (Procedure) Rules (2021).

Gentlemen of the press!

The wanton destruction of lives and food crops in Taraba State, especially, in Wukari LGA of the state, as it affects us, the returning IDPs, in the state is becoming alarming and unbearable.

Members of the public may wish to recall that, following the Jukun-Tiv violent conflict that engulfed the state some years ago, a large population, predominantly, Tiv have fled to take refuge in neighboring States of Benue, Nasarawa, plateau, and the FCT Abuja to mention just a few.

Now that we, have started coming back to our farmland to grow food crops in preparation to return to normal life following a brief respite, the evil wave of the violent attacks is again springing up in terms of sudden attacks on our lives while in farms and primitive destruction of our food crops.

On Friday, 3/11/2023, over one thousand yams belonging to farmers were forcefully harvested and destroyed at Chiina, the plunderers also carted away a large number of yams to an unknown destination, though, the villagers reported that the criminals were heading towards Wukari. Similarly, on Thursday, 2/11/2023, this same group of plunderers invaded large hectares of maize farms at Tse-Ajaver with trucks, armed to the teeth, they harvested all the maize belonging to the IDPs and thereafter, cut down the unripe ones just to destroy the farm. One wonders the essence of this kind of be******ty -if you have looted the maize, why don't you leave the unripe ones so that the farmer too will get a little to feed himself and his family when it ripes?

Most worrisome, is the fact that these attacks are also aimed at eliminating the returnees, Just Wednesday, 25/10/2023 at Tse-Yuham, Mrs Demenenge Mercy

Safe Environment and Community Health Initiative (SECHI) expresses profound sorrow and outrage at the senseless killing of Bassey Sardauna Nkuphee, a dedicated teacher at GDSS Model School, Jalingo. The incident occurred earlier today when Mr. Nkuphee fell victim to a brutal attack by a gang of notorious students within the school premises.

SECHI vehemently condemns this heinous act and calls for swift and thorough investigation by the law enforcement agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice. The organization demands the immediate arrest and prosecution of the students involved, sending a clear message that such violence will not be tolerated in our schools.

Founder of Meta (formerly Facebook), Mark Zuckerberg, has undergone surgery following a knee injury suffered during training for an upcoming mixed martial arts competition.

Zuckerberg suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and shared this in an Instagram post on Friday.

Sharing an update on his surgery, he wrote, "I am on the road to recovery.

" Zuck tore my ACL sparring and just got out of surgery to replace it.

"Grateful for the doctors and team taking care of me.

"I was training for a competitive MMA fight early next year, but now that is delayed a bit.

"Still looking forward to doing it after I recover.

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, on behalf of the entire Nigeria Police Force, mourns the loss of a dedicated and esteemed retired colleague, CP Frank Odita, a former Force Public Relations Officer who served in the revered office between 1990 and 1992. He noted that CP Odita had made indelible mark in the hearts of all who knew him, and in the annals of the NPF.

CP Frank Odita's commitment and exemplary service during his tenure as the Force PRO earned him the respect and admiration of his peers, the media, and the public. He played a pivotal role in enhancing the image of the Nigeria Police Force and fostering better relations with the media and the community.

The Inspector General of Police emphasized that his passing is a great loss to the NPF family, and his contributions to the Force will be remembered and cherished. As he is laid to rest today 3rd November 2023 in his hometown Ibusa, Delta State, the IGP extends the heartfelt condolences of the Police to his family and loved ones and prays for the repose of his soul. He reiterated that he will be remembered with respect and gratitude, and his legacy will continue to inspire us as we strive for excellence in our duties.

Senate confirms Chira Auditor General for Federation

The Senate confirmed President Bola Tinubu’s appointment of Mr. Shaakaa Chira as the Auditor General for the Federation (AuGF).

Chira’s confirmation on Wednesday followed his screening by senators at the Committee of the Whole, chaired by the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio.

Similarly, the Red Chamber also screened and confirmed seven out of 10 presidential nominees as Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs).

Their confirmation was also a result of the consideration of the request of President Tinubu, which was presented on the floor of the upper legislative chamber by the Majority Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele.

Senator Bamidele explained that the confirmation of the nominees was in accordance with the provisions of Section 154(1) of the 1999 Constitution.

Those confirmed are Mr Etekarnba Umoren (Akwa Ibom State), Mr Isah Ehimeakne (Edo State), Mrs Oluwatoyin Babalola (Ekiti State) and Mr Abubakar Ahmed Mai‘aii (Gombe State).

Others include Mr Shehu Wahab (Kwara State), Mr Aminu Kasimi Idris (Nasarawa State) and Mohammed Abubakar Sadiq (Niger State).
