SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Rejected: Stories Worth Publishing is an online literary journal of previously rejected work. We are currently seeking submissions for the debut issue set to release the first quarter of 2015. Please send all submissions within the body of an email to [email protected]. No attachments will be opened. Reading Periods:
October-December, January-March, April-May, August- September
1. Please read all guidelines before submitting.
2. Submit only once per reading period per category
3. All submissions must include a cover letter that does not interpret the piece but explains who you are. It also must contain both the original query/pitch/cover letter and the rejection letter/correspondence from the publication you first submitted to.
4. We encourage simultaneous submissions, however please clearly state this in your cover letter. If another publication accepts a piece, please contact us immediately via email with “Submission Withdraw” in the subject field so that we can remove your story from the queue with our sincere congratulations.
5. If published, Rejected: Stories Worth Publishing retains all first publishing and archival rights. The writer retains all copyright and may submit a piece for reprint to any other publication. We request that if the story is reprinted that you include that the piece is reprinted from Rejected: Stories Worth Publishing. Please also include the issue number and date. Fiction
We accept literary fiction, though other well-written genres will be considered. We prefer 3000 words or less, but will accept up to 5000 words if the story requires it. Flash Fiction
We will accept flash fiction up to 500 words. Non-Fiction
We prefer person/place profiles or slice of life profiles. We will accept up to 3000 word stories with verifiable facts. Please include all source/place information. Poetry
Up to 5 poems may be submitted at the same time. No separate email submissions in a single reading period. Each poem may be up to 250 words. Kids Submissions
Because there is a very small market where kids can submit work, Rejected: Stories Worth Publishing will accept a limited amount of un-submitted fiction and poetry from children, ages 6-15, to be published in the kids section of the web page. The purpose of this section is to provide a safe place that will allow children to learn about the writing and revisions process necessary to become a published author. Please follow all submission guidelines. Submit only once per reading period. IMPORTANT: What we are not looking for:
• Political pieces- if it is on the ballot this is not the right outlet for such pieces.
• Previously published works
• Novel excerpts unless they are self-contained
• Erotica, po*******hy, reviews, or research papers.
• Fan fiction
