Been working on a passion project the past few days. I can’t sing worth a lick, but a parody song has been on my heart for a while and I was able to get the words out in a makeshift recording booth.

Now I’m learning *very* basic song production process in Reaper and working with takes. It basically allows me to choose the best parts of different runs I took at the song, and then compile them in the end into one continuous product in the end. A very powerful feature in any DAW but also incredibly time-intensive to listen to and choose the best takes. With almost 20 to choose from for about a 4-minute parody, that’s over an hour of audio!

I knew tons of work went into studio audio production, but going through this process has upped my appreciation for production engineers to a whole new level. Still a lot of work to do (and a music video to shoot afterward!)

For my fellow Christians who know what I’m talking about, we’re not choosing to stay away from large gatherings during a public health crisis because we lack faith in God. It’s what God calls us to do to show our love & care for our neighbor.

A big part of my deconstruction has not only been to learn how to be a better listener, but to understand how some of the things I’ve said myself in the past have been unhelpful in my ultimate witness as a Christian.

When I tried to make excuses for the Church “well I’m sorry that church did that to you, we don’t do that at my church” I was giving exceptions to the rule without addressing the problematic rule of the majority in the first place.

I also learned to watch my speech in accusing people of being “false”/“fake” or “not true” Christians, because that ultimately only God’s judgement to make and not my own. I got into detail a bit better in my video response so I hope y out check it out if you have a few minutes to take out of your day.

Love you fam ❤️

After a brief battle with leukemia, God has called my grandfather home this week. We knew for a while this time was coming, and it was a blessing to spend what little time was left listening to his stories, laughing at his antics, and marveling at his faith. I’ll forever miss your calling me by my nickname, the smell of your pipe to***co outside on a cold winter evening, and your magic trick of pulling quarters from behind my ears. Until we meet again down the line, I’ll be missing you on this plain. I love you, Poppie. I’ll try not to get into too much trouble along my journey ❤️

You’ll only understand this sentence if you’re on TikTok. I’ve been lurking on the platform for too long. I’m just now a opening up to the creative possibilities, fun, and opportunity that can be found on the platform. I may be late, but everyone’s gotta start somewhere!

Made a tasty breakfast this morning. Buttered/toasted sourdough with caramelized onions/brown sugar & scrambled eggs (Gordon Ramsay style) and a side of pork sausage links.

It took a little time, but worth it. Delicious and super filling.

I’ve been giving a lot of thought to the religious institutions I’ve grown up in, and after almost 33 years of life I’m working on reflection and restructuring of my faith. What it means to be Christian, how that is shown to or understood by others, what Christ calls us as His followers to do, etc.

It’s going to be a weird, awkward journey, but I believe God will guide me & help show me how to better serve Him as I walk along this path. I pray you’ll also get something out of my journey as I document it.

Sunday thoughts: I was able to enjoy a morning walk this weekend. A this section of the path reminded me of the “green tunnel” in the backyard of our family’s house growing up. I would spend hours on a daily basis exploring the woods & the trail around the perimeter of our property - making up stories and pretending to be a fantasy hero with a stick in hand as a sword.

If I were to visit those same paths now they wouldn’t feel the same, for it’s no longer the same path and I’m no longer the same person. The memories are pleasant to look back on, however.

I’m excited to watch GaryVee’s ex*****on process on his NFT project. My favorite NFT by far is the Gift Goat - which gets you at least 6 random physical gifts a year for three years, among other things. Tons of people are confused by the general concept of an NFT, but Gary is taking it to a different level that’s just the start of the NFT evolution. G U M B O !
Celebrating the culinary success last night of making our own batch of chicken + sausage gumbo for the first time! Making this dish is pretty straightforward but you still have to be careful while making it.

Cooking the roux (heating oil & browning flour in a pan) was the most intensive part. Burning it just a little can cause catastrophe for the entire batch! I stayed on the cautious side this time around, but next time I’ll try to make the roux a little darker.

The sausage was a little too spicy for but aside from that this batch turned out fantastic! I usually put rice in with my gumbo, but this time around I tried something different based off of : homemade potato salad. Seriously y’all, this pairing is a match made in Heaven! Y’all got to try out the combination the next time you get a bowl of gumbo.
