ARTIST MUSIC SUBMISSIONS:
The Whip plays American Roots Music - Blues, Rock, Country (not Top 40), Bluegrass, Folk, Gospel and Comedy. We generally don't play anything considered Top 40 by today's standards (no offense to any of those artists) but occasionally there are outstanding crossover performers. Not really interested in computer-generated music either. We prefer real people playing real instruments singing with their real voices. If you feel you fall within those few guidelines, submit away! DO NOT use Facebook, Messenger, Twitter or social media to reach out to us about your music. These contact methods will not be reviewed. DO email us a download link, media kit link or dropbox link with artist information and/or bio within the email text to [email protected]. Southwest winds gusting at times over 40 mph and dry conditions will lead to an elevated fire danger this afternoon. Outdoor burning should be postponed to another day. Use caution with the disposal of smoking materials.

Garth Hudson, whose fantastical approach to the organ and virtuosity on a panoply of other instruments lent a distinctive touch to the roots-rock of the Canadian-American group the Band, has died. He was 87. https://bit.ly/42mheP2

The Whip is starting a new focus for our Go Fund Me: https://gofund.me/afefc21d

In 2024, the number of new listeners in Chicago, Downstate Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin exploded giving The Whip our best numbers yet (over 82,000 unique listeners). Unfortunately, also in 2024 we lost our founder Lonesome Larry Williams to cancer and several high profile advertisers and festivals reneged on paying their advertising bills. But fortunately, our loyal advertisers and listeners stepped up and got us through the year for which we are eternally grateful.

NEW EXPENSES: The time has come for our seven year old Mac to be replaced with a new updated system that can handle upgraded software(s). Donations that we take in now will be used for a new Mac Mini and all the accessories, estimated $5,000 to $6,000.

GOOD NEWS: Our current streaming company, Fidelity Media in Champaign IL is absolutely fantastic and is the best we've had in the almost two decades that The Whip has streamed its audio.

ONGOING EXPENSES: Internet services including streaming, utilities, music licensing, Verizon cell phone service that includes hotspot internet connection, normal office expenses. As you probably already know being a music lover, music licensing rates are the highest they have ever been and continue to climb.

How do you replace Lonesome Larry as the voice of The Whip? Well, you don't. There is no way to replace him! So we've turned to several talented voiceover artists for our commercial and audio production needs. That's an additional expense.

Thank you for your consideration and your interest in The Whip at backlandradio.com and our Go Fund Me: https://gofund.me/afefc21d
You are truly appreciated!

What a loss. RIP Bob. ❤

We are saddened to learn of the passing of Bob Uecker, a legendary ambassador for our game.

After a six-year playing career with the Braves, Cardinals and Phillies from 1962-67, Uecker spent more than half a century as “Voice of the Brewers” beginning in 1971.

Uecker’s self-deprecating humor endeared him to a national audience. He appeared in popular movies, commercials, talk shows, and even starred in his own TV sitcom. As a broadcaster, he worked national telecasts, All-Star Games, and the World Series. His dry style and wit belied a deep knowledge and passion for baseball, all of which made him one of the game’s finest broadcasters.

Uecker, a member of the 1964 World Series champion Cardinals, was the 2003 Ford C. Frick Award winner and a five-time Wisconsin Sportscaster of the Year. He was 90 years old.
