“A Missionary in a Virtual World” #fightEVILwithGOOD
Hooutsuite’s report on “Digital in 2018” shows that globally we have a total population of 7.593 billion. With this total population, 4.021 billion uses the internet and 3.196 billion are social media users. It is therefore not surprising that many are already using social media to promote products (or even themselves) through vlogs or short films. It is interesting to discover seminarians, priests, and even Pope Francis himself using social media as a means to evangelize. Many will call this cybermission, and for me, this is a new and effective way to evangelize.
First, cybermission is a new and effective way to evangelize because you do not need to spend so much money to do this. What you need is just a phone with a camera, an earphone with microphone, and you are ready to go. You do not need an expensive camera and a whole audio system. After you shoot yourself, you can edit your video with your smartphone using a free video editor application which is downloadable on application stores. You do not even need a computer or laptop in making your video. In other words, being a cybermissionary is economical.
Second, cybermission is not a job. Someone will not require you to do this. You can decide when and where you want to shoot your vlog. You can manage your schedule for studies and for work. But the most interesting part is, unlike the usual mission that takes you to different places, in cybermission you can reach hundreds or thousands without going out. In other words, being a cybermissionary is relaxing.
Third, using virtual tools like emoticons, facial reactions, and sound effects in editing, you can make your vlog very interesting to your audience. You can make a video with a serious message or a funny video to gain the attention of your young audiences. You can also invite guests to your vlog, go to places of interest such as churches, and feature them. You can interview personalities during special events. In your video, you can be as interactive as you can by letting your viewers comment and react to your video. In other words, cybermissionary is creative.
