THE FIRST BLIND BAR PASSER 👏

LOOK: Anthony Mark Emocling, a University of Baguio law graduate, becomes the first blind passer of the Bar examination.

Despite all odds, Baguio native Emocling is one of the 3,992 examinees who passed the 2022 Bar exam.

In an interview with the Inquirer, he describes his study experience as difficult as he needed to convert his learning materials so that he could read them.

“Kailangan ko [mag] dobleng effort since walang readily accesible material for the blind,” he explains.

During the exam, the Supreme Court provided an encoder to assist him in reading the questions and putting his answers into a laptop.

When asked what inspired him to pursue being a lawyer, Emocling says that it was during former President Joseph “Erap” Estrada’s impeachment when, despite being newly blinded, he began listening to the radio and overheard lawyers being interviewed.

"I was amazed and sabi ko sa sarili ko na baka kayanin ko din maging abugado,” he shares.

Emocling adds that one must be confident in their abilities to realize the goals they have set for themselves.

“There will be failures along the way but use it as a guide to motivate you to better reach your dream,” he advises.
