VOLUNTEERS FROM NORTHFIELD, KINGS NORTON WANTED ASAP!

£40 compensation available for anyone who can visit the University of Birmingham.

“I’m a student at the university needing help with a study that will help spinal cord injury research and I’m looking for males aged 50-54 years old to take part in a research study (we already have enough females recruited).

We’re looking into how blood pressure, heart rate and brain blood flow changes in response to being tilted upright, some eyes open/eyes closed tasks, and some cognitive assessments that test memory and attention

Blood pressure will also be monitored over 24 hours.

This will help us understand more about cardiovascular and brain health in people with a spinal cord injury.

We’re offering people a HEALTH MOT FREE OF CHARGE. Please comment or message to find out more!”

Police teams are on high alert as reports of a planned street racing event in Birmingham continue to circulate for tomorrow night (30 August).

“We have the necessary equipment and powers to stop street racers in their tracks and will be taking a zero-tolerance approach to this illegal activity.

Severe penalties await those who attend or participate in these events.

There are high court injunctions in place across Birmingham and the Black Country that bans street racing, and we have the power to arrest and prosecute anyone who breaks the law. That means the racers themselves, the organisers, the spectators – anyone involved.

We’ve already made 34 arrests of people who have breached these injunctions and given out 380 tickets to people who were driving carelessly, had illegal window tints, or had illegal number plates.

We’re using advanced technology and surveillance to track down street racers and increasing patrols in areas where we know dangerous driving is a problem.

In the last eight months ,155 section 59 of the Police Reform Act have been issued to street racers. This order means that vehicles can be seized if we reasonably believe a vehicle is being used in a manner which is causing, or likely to cause alarm, distress or annoyance to the public.

Earlier today (29 August), Mohammed Aadam, aged 21, from Handsworth, was sentenced for dangerous driving and received a 12-week suspended prison sentence and two-year driving ban after being caught racing on the A38 Sutton Coldfield bypass.

Aadam was recorded by police officers who were in an unmarked vehicle on 6 July 2024. Officers witnessed him driving dangerously, putting himself and others at risk.

Street racing is extremely dangerous. These type of meet up events put everyone in danger - pedestrians, spectators, other drivers, and even racers themselves.

Cars are deadly weapons. One wrong move, one loss of control, and people could get seriously hurt or even killed. It's just not worth the risk.

DC Mark Campbell, from Operation Hercules, said: " We're committed to making our roads safer for everyone. Officers will be out in force over the weekend to crack down on street racing and car cruising.

“We've had success in identifying and stopping dangerous drivers, and we'll continue to use advanced technology and surveillance to catch offenders. Our priority is ensuring that our roads are safe for all."

From: Stirchley ‘Friends of Rea Valley’

Massive thankyou to all the volunteers who came to the FORVS monthly session last Sunday and tackled ALL OF THIS from the park and riverbanks. Hidden in plain sight it can be very shocking to see the reality of how much is dumped in our green spaces

If you want to help you can volunteer with us every 4th Sunday of the month at 2pm. Meet up at the Cartland Road/Ten Acres noticeboard

“Around 4pm, I was in a taxi between Halfords and the canal and I witnessed a group of young boys just walked past 2 Chinese men at the bus stop and punching one of them in the face just randomly and shouting something.
Cars were in traffic but they all tried to check on the man however I managed to take some pictures from my taxi. I don’t know if I should post the pictures but the kid that punched the man has discoloured skin on his face looking like vitiligo.”

“Experienced a robbing at the Sainsbury Local ATM last evening around 6. It was done by a homeless guy sitting right next to it on a lady who was withdrawing some cash. Confronted the guy but I was threatened by a blade. Chased him but he managed to run away. The issue was reported to the police.

Never even imagined that this stuff could happen with so many people around in the evening. Please stay safe out there.”
