Introducing Monadnock Underground

Founded in response to the uniquely 2019 backdrop of broad and slow-motion societal descent into chaos and an explosive local renaissance of culture, spirituality, and community, Monadnock Underground is a publication of and for the Moment. “Thought and spirit” is not just a tagline - it refers to the thought required to make sense of the world and the spirit required to truly and fully live in it.

This is a hub for literary expression and exploration universal to people of all places. It is also a guerrilla newspaper serving a specific region. Several times per week, we will feature new content - no! not “new content” but original, carefully crafted pieces of writing. From a small but growing crew of editors and regular contributors, we will publish monthly editorials, spiritual forecasts, permacultural insight, dream journeys, fiction (even spiritual fiction) and dispatches written from hidden enclaves with the kind of eccentric-yet-perceptive perspectives you won’t find anywhere else.

That’s just what we’re promising to produce in-house. We’re also accepting submissions and actively commissioning work from anyone with a voice that expresses and explores the vital thought and spirit in fresh, regenerative, re-enchanting ways - and that can mean a lot of different things. We’re talking about essay, longform creative non-fiction, fiction, commentary - even the occasional bit of poetry! Over time, you’ll also see special features like interviews, book and film reviews, and perhaps even the odd bit of underground journalism.
