Insights from ‘S*x Work Is Real Work’ — a coffee table book exploring what it means to be a s*x worker today.

Ajua is a 23-year-old aspiring entrepreneur from Port Harcourt, a city in southern Nigeria. She faced many adversities in life as both of her parents died when she was a child, and at 18 she became a mother. For her, s*x work is a means to an end, a side hustle to sustain herself and her daughter. When speaking about her experience as a s*x worker, she’s real about the fact that in Nigeria, where gender equality and s*x worker rights are still nascent, it’s a highly dangerous job that’s financially precarious at best, and could leave you dead, at worst.

Our ‘S*x Work Is Real Work’ coffee table book interrogates what it means to be a s*x worker today. Through interviews with industry experts and s*x workers across the globe, we learned one thing for sure: that s*x workers deserve to be protected. Destigmatize and decriminalize s*x work!

Boo is a s*x worker and spiritual healer from Palm Beach County, Florida. As a q***r, trans femme born to religious Haitian parents they struggled with support and acceptance and turned to s*x work as a means to explore their s*xuality and find community. For Boo, s*x work is more than a way to earn a living; it’s an intimate exchange. Their sessions include energy cleansing, erotic massage, role-play, talking or fantasizing.

Because yesterday’s “White Lives Matter” T-shirts weren’t outrageous enough, today, decided to publicly bully Gabriella Karefa-Johnson]], a fashion stylist and global Vogue contributing editor, for her criticism of the Yeezy presentation. In screenshots shared to her Instagram story she shared her gut-reaction to the runway show and called the display “pure violence”. Shortly after, Kanye shared her picture with the caption “This is not a fashion person You speak on Ye Ima speak on you Ask Trevor Noah”.
