Back down goes Summersville!
Beginning January 16th, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Summersville Lake began lowering the lake pool approximately 50 feet to perform necessary maintenance on the intake structure prior to the summer season.
The lake will begin falling approximately 2.5 feet per day January 17 – February 8th when the elevation of 1,520 will be reached.
The winter boat launch ramps will not be accessible beginning January 17th and extending on into April.
The work plans include replacement of rubber seals on the bulkhead gates and deck grating replacement. The use of a crane will be necessary, and there will also be divers inspecting the condition of the structure.
On or before March 31st, once work has been complete, the annual lake filling will begin until the summer pool elevation of 1,652 has been reached.
An Environmental Assessment was performed over the last several weeks to provide for public input and to address any impacts from this work.
