I did a mix for Daisy Moon's Off Kilter series, this is what she had to say about it "Downtempo oddities, askew rhythms and bass heavy excursions transport us to the sway-state in the latest Off-Kilter mix, served to us by one of Bristol’s finest and most respected DJs, Farrell.

The tracks in this mix reflect the Downtempo, Dub and Techno adjacent sound that remains at the forefront of Bristol long running Sunday session, Under Heavy Manners; slow in speed yet blissed with energy and weaved together with precision."

This Sunday at The Red Church I've booked mad miran to come and DJ. You should come along. If you haven't seen the venue transform into a club then you are in for a treat.

For the second Devil’s Work party of the year, the Idle Hands team joins forces with The Red Church to bring Mad Miran to East Bristol for an Easter treat. Following the closure of the Idle Hands record shop and the subsequent twists and turns of attempts to reopen, one thing has stayed consistent...

Thanks to Matt Anniss for covering the Idle Hands Devil's Work radio show on SWU.FM last week. Here is two hours of him in the mix playing House and Techno, leaning into some of the sounds I like. I was off sick with what I am now assuming was Covid becasue i'm still knackered. Have a listen below.

Krotone takes the spotlight for Devil’s Work's third release, the new label launched by Idle Hands boss, Farrell.

During the heyday of the Idle Hands shop, Krotone’s self-released 12”s resonated deeply with the shop's ethos, delivering bass-heavy, dub, and techno sounds that perfectly encapsulated the vibe within those wall. Farrell took notice, integrating these tracks into DJ sets regularly. So, when the new label Devil's Work emerged, it was only natural that this Leeds-based producer and DJ found a place among its ranks

‘Champion’ stands tall as a formidable slice of propulsive dub techno, adorned with resonating stabs and an elegant breakdown.

Meanwhile, ‘Project 36’ boasts a similar weightiness, its sound leaning towards garage while retaining a distinct dub techno essence.

Closing the curtain on Devil’s Work releases for the year, this marks the finale of 2023, promising an exciting array of releases lined up for 2024.

New radio show started on SWU.FM last night, under the name of my new label Devil's Work. When I called time on my old label I wanted to refocus on something that was more DJ focused and reflective of what I am playing in sets. The first release was from Human Resources, and here they join me with an hour long guest mix.

Last year Danielle, Daisy Moon and myself were invited to play in Amsterdam with One Eye Witness crew at Doka. We had a good time, drank multiple negronis (thanks Colin), I managed to lose my glasses (thanks Hylke for finding them) and met a load of sound people including the folks at Polychrome Audio, who I have just recorded a mix for. Here’s an hour long snapshot of how I like to play at the moment. Stripped back and Dubby, and attempting to balance ravey stuff with more hypnotic vibes. DJing always feels like a work in progress, but in the last year or so I feel like I’ve been able to combine all the elements I like about dance music into something more cohesive and distinct. Drawing in stuff from across the spectrum of House and Techno that I feel resonate together. So here it is, along with a nice pic of Weston Super Mare for those, like me, from the West Midlands who have an affinity for Somerset’s most beloved ‘seaside’ destination. (TLDR: I’ve done a Tech House mix for some mates in Amsterdam)

For this twenty-third episode of Polychrome Radio, we have the honor of hosting Bristol’s very own Farrell in our collection of recordings. Chris has been instrumental in shaping the port city sound t

Hi folks. I was on the radio last week, Noods here in Bristol to be precise. I played a bunch of stuff in an upbeat ravey kind of style. I think I must have been in a good mood, it was my birthday last week and I had a nice time so maybe something to do with it. I’m not sure why I look so moody in the picture tbh but there you go. If you want to have a listen I have put a link to Soundcloud in my bio. Current and forthcoming racks from Adam Curtain, Amaliah, Glances, Joe Webb, Alexander Skancke, Introspekt, Daisy Moon, Drumheller and a few other bits as well.

Looking a bit spooky here in my storage unit because the lights gone out and I’m using a head torch to get by… damn, I really need a shop to operate from lol.

Anyway just here to say that today I have announced two new 12” releases that are coming out on my labels.

The first is on City Road Records. It is a tribute of sorts to the five years Idle Hands spent at 32a City Road, St Pauls, Bristol. It is a various artists 12” with all of the acts having close ties to the city and reflect some of the UK centric music that was pushed in the shop. Tracks from Wilfy D, OH91, DJ Polo and Sir Hiss. It’s a vinyl only release for now. It felt fitting to do this to help other record shops out there.

The second is on a new label I am starting called ‘Devil’s Work’. The focus is on exuberant dance floor tracks, operating somewhere in the house and techno realm. The first release is from Joe Shrimpling aka: Human Resources. All three tracks all riffing on the same theme. It’s fast paced and sounds good in the mix.

Both are up on Soundcloud now to have a listen to, I’ll stick a link in the bio shortly.
Both are distributed by Unearthed and come out on 3rd March.

Playing at Houghton Festival last year was a special gig for me. Towards the end of 2021 I was thinking of packing DJing in. The record shop was taking up all of my time. I was trying to navigate the after effects of Brexit and the looming recession. Music was losing some of its shine for me. I had to reappraise what I was doing - rather than quitting DJing I doubled down. I wanted to come at it afresh. I dedicated more time to the craft and looked at where I could improve. Playing Houghton last year felt like the culmination of that work. It was a blast. I'm glad to say i'm playing again this year.

Here’s a pic of myself and larking about, chuckling away at something I can’t remember what.. this photo is from last year. It’s only there to alert you to the fact that we’re both playing in Edinburgh at this Friday 20th January for Nick’s night I haven’t been up to Scotland since I the ‘before times’ - good to hear that Tasty Noodle is still there, will be going there direct from the airport and then onto the club.

13/01/2023

That’s me pointing at a King Tubby record (not the Oasis box set) because I’m heading up to Glasgow to play some records with Dubwise fiends at the end of the month. It’s a great label that hits a sweet spot between dub and techno, without being dub techno (or something) Been told to just bring records to this so have been building up a pile at home to play over the last few weeks. Some stuff that crosses over with what me and Andy play at 90s steppers, downtempo techno stuff, the more experimental end of ‘bass music’ and a load of ravey stuff that has that dubby spirit. Not going to lie it I love playing digitally these days, not so much for the convenience but for the breadth of new stuff out there not on vinyl and the very direct/precise way you can use it. That being said I’ve generally got a bag of records on me because if the set up is good you can’t beat the buzz of hitting your flow state spinning discs… Saturday 28th Jaunary
