Brand New Mix Tonight!
A little story: during lockdown I was invited to do a guest mix by for his new radio show that had just launched, and from that I picked up a weekly show that I continued right up until things started to normalise, (as I found I couldn’t commit to it like I used to) but was forever thankful for the opportunity, the lessons and to connect with such a wicked community.
Fast forward to today and he has invited me back on before the frequency’s switch and the station goes to the next level. It’s the first mix I have recorded in what feels like forever and I’m taking you on a journey.
26 tracks. 60 minutes.
Some old, some new, some yet to be released. Tunes to get your Saturday night vibing.
Show starts at 20:00.
Mix premieres at 21:00.
Link to the show and chatroom will be on my story, come say hello it would be wicked to see you ❤️🙌

Another glimpse in to how the first @concretejunglists @districtcardiff rooftop session went down 🥹 tickets just gone on sale for Round 2! 09/06/23.

📹 @guanyew_
If yesterday could be summed up in a moment, it quite frankly can’t. This was just a snapshot of how it went down. Vibing and shelling alongside @niss_uk for the first time, @concretejunglists, staff and security at @districtcardiff, @chez_acm, @thesundancekid17, @nickspeedo, @alkalisounds, @jackbostonmusic, @dillinjavalve, @deeizm, @ransomdeejay. It was just the most glorious day and night. Everyone smashed it, everyone there enjoying themselves and the music. Heart and soul are full today.

The Journey
Double-A-Side caught the DNB bug before he had any prospects to learn to mix music in general. Starting in the early 2000’s, Aaron Armstrong caught the ear of two tracks in particular, the nationwide hit by Pendulum ‘Slam’ alongside the more underground ‘Billion Dollar Gravy’ by London Elektricity. It was through the latter that he got on to Hospital Records and into the monthly podcast, indulging for multiple years before he was of age to legally venture out into clubs.
His first major outing was at a Hospitality event in the infamous Matter nightclub (now Building Six) in 2009 and it wasn’t until a year or so later that he got involved in the local DnB scene at Uni in Aberystwyth filming for the events brand Black House, capturing moments from artists such as Chase and Status, Stinkahbell, Sidney Samson & Unitz to name a few.
It wasn’t until his move to Cardiff that he finally purchased a controller and speakers, knowing that learning to mix on Vinyl would be the goal after witnessing the craft on nights out. That came to fruition by eventually learning on belt drives and more so through the local legends Catapult Records and the DJ School they were holding at the time.
Having already amassed most of his collection through them, there he met the owners and other DJ’s eager to know the craft, learning more about mixing records and CD’s, at a time when digital and USB were just breaking through, eventually leading to him purchase Technics, sadly just before they closed their doors for good.
After a stint in Swansea and DJing at a couple of local nights there, he ultimately moved back to Cardiff with the aim to start playing at the local clubs.
From there until now, Double-A-Side has had the pleasure of playing for multiple club nights including Junction, XL Invites, The Spin Doctors, Pressure, Paranoize, Temple and Concrete Junglists in venues such as Kongs, Vaults and Undertone.
Known for delving into the more Liquid side of DNB, whether Vinyl, Digital, or both, he has the tendency to branch out to more deeper sounds if the occasion arises. Purposefully adding to his collection for each set he plays, it’s definitely quality over quantity when it comes to curating his sets on the night. 2019 is already proving to be his standout year, with more to come on the horizon.
