Our hearts are heavy as we send our love and condolences to his family and the fans whose lives he touched through his music. Rest easy, Mister Cee. Your legacy will forever resonate.

I decided to open my heart back up to sharing. For years I only wanted to sing to God. You could call it worship, but it felt private. Like personal. Like meditative. Like, not for sale.

I’ve done 100’s of shows since 2017 but people keep asking where I’ve been. I’ve released an album and collabs with others, been in a movie, but folks are still awaiting some big un-veiling. Sometimes presence doesn’t equal present. I feel you.

Finalizing this divorce has lifted a dark cloud from over my head. It felt right to start at the beginning again. It felt right to warm my vocals up with the sounds that raised me. Jazz.

I decided to pick 52 Jazz faves and release one each week just as a way to soften back up to life. I’ve done the softening in private, but I haven’t lent my softness to the public. To love. I’ve been broken by that before.

So I’m warming up. Like an athletes after a torn Achilles. (Or a musician after a silenced, broken spirit) 50 more warmups to go. 50 more expressions. Experiments. Vocal experiments. 50 more studio sessions. To break myself back into what I love. To feel again. I couldn’t feel for a long time. Divorce will numb you... You’ll tell yourself you don’t need anything (especially when you “feel” like you don’t have anything). Being strong sometimes looks like clawing through surviving in a perfect manicure. You’ve been there. I know I’m not strange for pressing my way. ☺️

So, Jazz. Because it feels good. And because I understand it. Unlike so many other things. And it’s therapeutic. And it gives me a place to grasp this life and grow from. It’s a starting place.

50 more warmups to go. I’m just getting started. Needed a minute. Healing is dope. This is rehab. Jazz is the gym. Let’s go.
