None of this would be possible without our amazing followers, fellow safety professionals who tune in, engage, and drive meaningful conversations around workplace safety. To anyone who looks down on skilled trade careers, imagine this:

An Ivy League genius comes up with the next breakthrough in wireless technology or fiber optic internet, revolutionizing how you post your TiToks. Perfect. That’s progress. But now, imagine if all the skilled workers – the people who make things happen – suddenly stopped doing their jobs.

Who’s going to build the towers? Who’s going to manufacture the hardware that makes it work? Who will string up the new lines, pull those overhead cables, or bury the underground ones? When a storm knocks out service, who will be out there in the cold or heat, climbing the poles and fixing the lines?

Skilled tradespeople – construction, equipment operators, electricians, tower workers, linemen, machinists, fabricators, welders – are the people who build and maintain the infrastructure that keeps society moving. Without them, that breakthrough? It would just sit on paper, collecting dust.

So the next time someone talks down about blue-collar work, remind them about all the other businesses and skilled trades that make that idea a reality. We rely on their expertise every single day. It is a relationship between the two. Skilled trades deserve our respect, not judgment.
