Some bad timing closing the bridge just as the San Pedro waterfront redevelopment is about to take shape. I guess it's good news for the beautiful city of Willington - where the Long Beach to San Pedro traffic will be diverted. A good opportunity for the rest of So Cal to come to Long Beach and spend their money. ;)
Caltrans considered keeping the bridge partially open but decided shutting it down completely was the fastest, safest option. Detours are still being worked out.
