Solstice greetings from Samaritan Press

Cascadian Midsummer is a festival of art, music, and ritual held in Pe Ell Washington.

I was honored to create the poster for the 2023 edition.
The drawing features the Aun rune (as developed by .animism ) a symbol which encapsulates the relation between the cycles of the sun and moon in the year of healing, 2023. The sun being treads lightly through the dark enchanted forest beside the beasts and flowing waters of Red Hawk Avalon.

Announcing a Blood of the Black Owl / Samaritan Press collaboration, “Spirit Canoe : Soaring the Shadow Spiral”

Every aspect of this collaborative release was crafted with our collective heart and hands.

• Three tracks of medicinal soundscapes by Chet Scott aka Blood of the Black Owl recorded via Vardlokkur’s mystery , Nidstang, skull callers, elk bladder shakers, and many more ritual instruments. Dubbed in real time on a hand stamped antique gold cassette.

• A 12x12” two color letterpress print by DV D’Andrea. This drawing was drawn by hand with direct transmission from the Spirit Canoe. It was printed on the C&P platen press (mfg 1910) with foot pumped treadle on 100% cotton rag paper. Signed and numbered in an edition of 150.

• A booklet with custom illustrations throughout. Also printed in-house at Samaritan Press.
•
• Custom cassette wrap printed in gold letterpress on black.

I create the Hatha Yoga calendar as a gift to yoga practitioners and art lovers alike. It is a notation of time passing and a reminder of two important points in the moon's phase, Purnima (Full Moon) and Amavasya (New Moon). As practiced by traditional Ashtanga Yoga schools the "Moon Days" are periods of rest and self care.

The 2023 Hatha Yoga Calendar references a Panchangam for Olympia Washington.

Janaka Stucky’s “Ascend Ascend”will be released on vinyl via Neurot Recordings early in 2023.
It was a pleasure and honor to create the cover and interior illustrations.
A 6 color poster (detail shown) will be printed at Monolith Press and is available now through the Kickstarter campaign and later via the Samaritan Press website.
The Kickstarter campaign offers various packages and exclusive items such as prayer cards which will be partially printed on the Chandler & Price in-house at Samaritan Press.

Posted • There are few artists who are capable of rendering an image that channels both the weight of heavy metal and the beauty of religious mysticism and nature. If there were one to be defined by this gift, it would be David D'Andrea. Alongside fellow artists Brian Mercer, Santos, and Arik Roper, he has helped define the iconography of Sleep and OM and also lent his talents to countless other bands, including Dinosaur Jr., The Jesus Lizard, Arthur Brown, Queens of the Stone Age, Windhand, and Triptykon. In this chapter, David speaks about his early days in punk and skate zine culture and his artistic process from pen and ink to digital and print, as well as knowing exactly what works for a band stylistically, Vedanta symbols, 80's photocopiers, the difficulty of fonts, navigating festival commissions, and his third-entity creation with Jondix: The Astral Mind.
