Khash – Middle East, East Europe and Turkey

A pretty gruesome little dish made up of stewed cows feet and head. It was once a winter comfort food but is now considered a delicacy. I’m sure it’s fine, so long as you don’t mind that grinning skull staring at you through its cold dead eyes.

Karakum Desert, Turkmenistan
A vast, flaming chasm draws tourists to the Karakum Desert in Turkmenistan, where record highs have reached 123 degrees Fahrenheit (or 50.55 degrees Celsius). Known as the “Gates of Hell,” this crater is actually a collapsed natural gas field that was likely set on fire by the Soviet Union in 1971 as a way to contain methane gas. Today, the Darvaza gas crater is one of the country’s most recognizable attractions.

Scorched mud, sand and low-lying shrubs define the desolate landscape of the Mitribah Desert in Kuwait. Few people pass this way. Those who do are extremely hot, even hotter than those enduring average temperatures of 115 in nearby Kuwait City. Hala Fruit: The fruit that looks like an exploding planet.

The hala fruit is a large edible fruit made up of numerous segments called keys or cones and is found in Southeast Asia, eastern Australia, Pacific Islands and Hawaii.

Also called the Tahitian screw pine or thatch screwpine, the hala fruit tree is one of the 750 or so trees that belong to the Pandanus species. The hala fruit tree can reach up to 14 metres in height, with a spiny trunk that grows between 5 - 11 metres in width. MELBOURNE, Australia -- A passenger was arrested at an Australian airport after he left a stationary airliner through an emergency exit, walked along a wing, and then climbed down a jet engine to the tarmac on Thursday, officials said.

Jetstar Flight JQ507 had arrived at Melbourne Airport from Sydney and had parked at a terminal gate when the man left the plane by the right-side exit, officials said.

Opening the exit automatically deployed a slide from the back of the wing at the fuselage to the ground, a Jetstar statement said. But the man instead walked along the wing and climbed down one of the Airbus A320’s two engines, an official said.

Passenger Audrey Varghese said passengers screamed and shrieked as the man began “erratic” behavior shortly before he opened the hatch.

“The man was exhibiting some quite strange behavior,” Varghese told Melbourne Radio 3AW.

"As soon as the plane had started coming to a stop, he immediately got up and basically charged to where the emergency exit row is, and in the process shoving people, causing a bit of commotion, (and) ripped open the emergency door,“ Varghese said.

Another passenger, identified as Maddison, told Nine News television the man had been va**ng, which is not allowed, during the 90-minute mid-morning flight and had unsuccessfully demanded the air crew provide him with alcohol.

Australian Federal Police officers had been alerted by Jetstar staff and arrested the man for “alleged aggressive behavior and breaching aircraft safety protocols,” a police statement said.

He was assessed by paramedics and taken to a hospital, where he remains for further assessment, the police statement said.

Police were continuing to investigate and charges were likely to be laid at a later date, they said.

The 17th female minister marks a significant milestone in Kuwait’s political history.

KUWAIT: An Amiri decree was issued appointing Nora Al-Fassam as Minister of Finance and Minister of State for Economic and Investment Affairs, making her the 17th female Kuwaiti minister. This marks a significant milestone in Kuwait’s history, reflecting the leadership’s recognition of the pivotal role Kuwaiti women play in driving the nation’s development.

Over the past decade, Kuwaiti women have risen to prominent leadership positions, serving as ministers, university presidents, ambassadors, and even elected members of the National Assembly, making their influence extend beyond the public sector, with many holding significant roles in the private sector at both local and international levels. Dr Massouma Al-Mubarak made history as the first Kuwaiti female minister when she was appointed as Minister of Planning and Minister of Administrative Development on June 14, 2005.

She continued to serve in various capacities, including Minister of Communications in 2006 and Minister of Health in 2007. Kuwait’s first government to include two female ministers was formed on March 25, 2007, with Nouria Al-Sabeeh as Minister of Education and Higher Education, alongside Dr Al-Mubarak as Minister of Health. Since then, Kuwaiti women have continued to play active and impactful roles, achieving significant accomplishments across various ministries, and their contributions have left a lasting impact on the country’s legislative, political, and social frameworks.

On May 28, 2008, Dr Moudhi Al-Humoud was appointed as Minister of State for Housing Affairs, with Nouria Al-Sabeeh continuing as Minister of Education and Higher Education. Dr Amani Bouresli was appointed as Minister of Commerce and Industry on May 8, 2011, and on December 13 of the same year, she was appointed as Minister of State for Planning. Dr Rola Dashti was appointed as Minister of State for Planning and Minister of State for National Assembly Affairs on July 19, 2012, and later took on additional roles, including Minister of Social Affairs in 2013.

Hind Al-Sabeeh served as Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and Minister of State for Economic Affairs from December 2016, with Dr Jenan Bushehri following as Minister of State for Housing Affairs in December 2017. On December 17, 2019, three female ministers were appointed for the first time: Mariam Al-Aqeel as Minister of Finance and Minister of State for Economic Affairs, Dr Rana Al-Fares as Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Housing Affairs, and Dr Ghadeer Asiri as Minister of Social Affairs.

Dr Rana Al-Fares has continued to hold various positions, including Minister of Public Works, Minister of State for Municipality Affairs, and later Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology. In 2022, she was joined by Huda Al-Shaiji, who was appointed as Minister of Social Affairs and Minister of State for Women and Childhood Affairs. Dr Amani Bogammaz was appointed Minister of Public Works and Minister of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy on October 16, 2022, with Mai Al-Baghli as Minister of Social Affairs and Minister of State for Women and Childhood Affairs.

In 2024, Dr Noura Al-Mashaan was appointed Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Municipality Affairs on January 17, 2024. On May 12, 2024, Dr Al-Mashaan was reappointed, alongside Dr Amthal Al-Huwailah, who was appointed Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Family and Childhood Affairs, and Minister of State for Youth Affairs. This latest appointment reinforces the growing influence of Kuwaiti women, highlighting their crucial role in shaping the nation’s future and driving its development agenda. — KUNA - Source is Kuwaittimes.com and Arab Times

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 21: The boycott of certain restaurants and brands that support Israel has become a key tool for those standing in solidarity with Gaza. According to experts, this campaign is crucial to curbing financial support for companies linked to the Zionist entity. Since the outbreak of the war, the boycott has reportedly cost well-known companies over $50 billion in losses. This sentiment resonates strongly in Kuwait, where people are determined to continue the boycott as a means of expressing solidarity with the Palestinian cause.
Sources revealed to Al-Seyassah that the ongoing boycott by Kuwait and the wider Arab and Islamic world against restaurants and companies supporting Israel has led to losses exceeding $50 billion since the outbreak of the Israeli war on Gaza until mid-2024. As evidence, a manager of a well-known restaurant stated that a prominent international chain operating under a “franchise” system suffered losses of no less than $7 billion in the first quarter of 2024 alone.

Six-Storey Building Collapses During Demolition in Jabriya.

According to a statement from the Public Relations and Media Department of the Fire Force, firefighting teams rushed to the scene immediately after receiving the report, with the acting head of the force, Major General Khaled Abdullah, present at the site. Security and ambulance personnel are collaborating closely with firefighters, while sniffer dogs are being used to ensure that no one is trapped under the rubble.
