In answer to a question raised by a resident at a previous meeting, at the July 23, 2024, meeting of the Town Council a memo explained the expenditure for trustees as follows: the town normally uses two trustees from the Page County Jail, each averaging about 1,264 hours a year. The annual budget includes $7,500.00 to provide one meal a day and water for the trustees and the town employee who supervises them while they are working for the town.
Two part-time workers for the same labor at $15/hour for approximately 2,528 work hours. For 1,264 hours/employee the gross salary would be $37,920.00 for the two plus the townβs share of Social Security and Medicare $3,034 for the two, totaling $40, 954.00 or $20,447.00 [Minutes say $20,4777.00].
[It is unclear from the minutes, whether the supervisor only supervises or also engages in work. It also is unclear, although it seems to be saying, that the town employee also has a free meal because the trustee must be supervised at all times.]
