At Crammed, we’ve always embraced the eclectic, the genre-bending, and the boundary-pushing. This night is a tribute to that spirit, and we can’t wait to share it with you. Hope to see you there 💌💌
Suba left us 25 years ago, “Um dia comum em SP” (‘a common day in São Paulo’, to quote the title of this track of his).
Having moved a few years earlier from his native Serbia, musician/composer Suba (aka Mitar Subotic) was in the process of becoming one of Brazil's most prominent producers when he tragically passed away in November 1999, just a few days after the release of his now-legendary album São Paulo Confessions (probably the most inspired album of electronic music to have come out of Brazil), and shortly before the completion of Bebel Gilberto's Tanto Tempo album, which was graced by his outstanding production work.
After working in a variety of music styles in former Yugoslavia, first in his native city of Novi Sad and then in Belgrade, Suba spent time in Paris, working at IRCAM and composing scores for ballet and theatre. In the wake of a trip to Brazil aimed at conducting a study on the music of the Brazilian Indians, Suba fell in love with São Paulo and decided to stay there. His intimacy with machines & programming, his composing and arranging skills and his feel for live beats and vocals quickly made him a powerful player on the new Brazilian scene, producing records for the likes of Marina Lima, Arnaldo Antunes, Mestre Ambrosio, and finally Bebel Gilberto’s best-selling album “Tanto Tempo”.

The STEVEN BROWN TRIO (feat Tuxedomoon, genuine’s Luc van Lieshout and Benjamin Glibert from AQUASERGE) performing ‘Some Guys’ at Jaki in Cologne, June 13. Anyone remembers hearing the song in Wim Wenders’ ‘Wings of Desire’ ?
They’re playing in Brussels next Sunday (June 23) at 5pm at L'Archiduc. The set mostly comprises songs from Steven’s wonderful 2022 album “El Hombre Invisible”. They’re currently recording a new LP.

Who the hell are AQUASERGE?
We understand that their new album 'La Fin de l'économie' (The End of Economy) is their more overtly political album to date,
but what genre of music is that?

UK radio & comedy personality Amy Lamé (formerly the official (and former official London Night Czar) presents AQUASERGE in her BBC 6 Music show.
"A band that really caught my ear!… they’ve got a great mix of pop, jazz, psych, rock, Italian & French film music… is there a band that would scream my name louder?"
One year ago, Aksak Maboul were releasing “Une aventure de VV (Songspiel)”, their aural theatre excursion.
Throwback to some of the formidable media reactions:
Contemporary Album of the Month (The Guardian, UK)
Unmistakable… a piece of remarkable sonic theatre (The Wire, UK)
An ambitious song-cycle… a staggering sonic treat (Uncut, UK)
A journey into a world of sound that is totally Aksak Maboul and no one else (The Quietus, UK)
The tunings and structures are from a reality where Sun Ra, Zappa and Beefheart were the defining pillars of modern music... very very wonderful (The Arts Desk, UK)
Véronique Vincent’s texts are worthy of a fantastic tale by Italo Calvino or a Jorge Luis Borges short story (Best, FR)
A model of dreamy experimentation, just like Aksak Maboul’s entire discography (Les Inrockuptibles, FR)
Sometimes sounds like Françoise Hardy meets Pierre Boulez. (Focus Vif, BE)
A radio play of exceptional quality. (TAZ, DE)
An avantgarde musical… a real treat (Musikexpress, DE)

A new Amatorski album is coming out on the 1st of March 2024!
Entitled Curves and Bends, Things Veer, it was written, composed and produced by Inne Eysermans (vocals, keys, guitar, beats). Additional arrangements were recorded with the collaboration of Jasper Segers, drummer and percussionist Christophe Claeys, and Liew Niyomkarn (field recordings and synthesized sounds).
Inne has been taking time off to explore various domains and do personal research away from pop music, and this is her first Amatorski release in years.
Just like the previous albums, it’s coming out on the Crammed Discs label.
The album is announced with an audiovisual teaser made by Che Go Eun, who designed the cover art.
Amatorski concerts will be announced very soon.
Source of Denial: the breath-taking new album by Afro-futuristic outflit Nihiloxica drops on Sept 29, and is up for preorders on Bandcamp: https://nihiloxica.bandcamp.com/album/source-of-denial
The razor sharp sound of this LP is fueled by frustrations with the visa bureaucracy: /// IN EITHER PEACE OR WAR TIME HAVE YOU EVER BEEN INVOLVED IN, OR SUSPECTED OF INVOLVEMENT IN, WAR CRIMES, CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY, OR GENOCIDE? /// HAVE YOU EVER BEEN INVOLVED IN, SUPPORTED OR ENCOURAGED TERRORIST ACTIVITIES IN ANY COUNTRY? /// HAVE YOU EVER BEEN A MEMBER OF, OR GIVEN SUPPORT TO, AN ORGANISATION WHICH HAS BEEN CONCERNED IN TERRORISM? /// HAVE YOU, BY ANY MEANS OR MEDIUM, EXPRESSED VIEWS THAT JUSTIFY OR GLORIFY TERRORIST VIOLENCE OR THAT MAY ENCOURAGE OTHERS TO COMMIT TERRORIST OR OTHER SERIOUS CRIMINAL ACTS? ///HAVE YOU EVER BEEN A MEMBER OF, OR GIVEN SUPPORT TO, AN ORGANISATION WHICH IS OR HAS BEEN CONCERNED WITH EXTREMISM? /// HAVE YOU, BY ANY MEANS OR MEDIUM, EXPRESSED ANY EXTREMIST VIEWS? /// HAVE YOU EVER ENGAGED IN ANY OTHER ACTIVITIES WHICH MIGHT INDICATE THAT YOU MAY NOT BE CONSIDERED TO BE A PERSON OF GOOD CHARACTER? /// IS THERE ANY OTHER INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER OR BEHAVIOR WHICH YOU WOULD LIKE TO MAKE US AWARE OF? ///
