🎇 Join .Lumiere for their spectacular finale on New Year’s Eve! 🎇

Experience the magical Starry Nights and Northern Lights Lantern Parade tomorrow- featuring the Samba Ya Wantsum drum line, Dancing Christmas Trees, and an array of stunning handmade lanterns crafted by talented Great British Carnival artists and the local Ramsgate community. Even if you haven’t had a chance to make a lantern at a workshop, the organizers will have some extra lanterns available, or you can simply bring a torch.

Be on the lookout for puppets that showcase iconic Ramsgate sights, including the Ramsgate Lighthouse and the St George’s Church Tower Lantern. And the Ramsgate hooden horses will be making an appearance, reviving a cherished East Kent folk tradition, first recorded in 1807 and making a comeback in 2024.

To participate in the parade on New Year’s Eve, head to at 4pm to collect your lantern. The parade will start between 4:30 and 4:45pm, following a route that includes Broad St, Hadres St, High St, Harbour St, and Harbour Parade, concluding at the Seafront at around 6pm.

15/12/2024

It’s a hoarse team this morning. Is it a winter bug? Oh no it’s not! It’s all the rambunctious booing we did at a fabulously villainous Captain Hook and a ragtag band of rowdy pirates who have taken over for this year’s pantomime Peter Pan.

Opening last night, the show has all the ingredients of festive cheer, a good pinch of tongue-in-cheek mischief and a healthy side of slapstick that ensures in Ramsgate the pantomime tradition is alive and kicking.
Hook’s sidekick Dame Seadog Sally almost steals the show but it’s a stella cast with Peter and Wendy taking flights of fancy over London’s skyline, Pirate Smee keeping us (an audience of shipmates) vocal, Captain Hook embodying cartoonish villainy (“you love me really” “oh no we don’t”), a medley of songs for every age from a Revolting crew of Lost Boys (think Matilda) to a rendition of Sinatra’s My Way, and a nod to the TikTok generation too. And with a continually changing set design (look out for a flying dragon, a giant ticking croc and the traditional ghostly apparition) the visuals of Neverland make for a magical experience where you won’t fail to join in with a boo and a hiss, a good deal of cheering and bags of laughter.

But what do the kids think??

“It’s really magical, can’t wait for Aladdin next year!” - Edie, age 6, first time panto attendee and one of the loudest audience members.

“I loved Captain Hook and the flying dragon - it was really clever how they made them fly and I wish I could go again tonight!” - Rudi, aged 10.

“I loved the book box, they used so many good songs and we all joined in’ - Finlay, aged 10.

“It really made me laugh out loud, smee was so funny.” - Cody, aged 10.

“I really enjoyed the you tube references and silly jokes.” Thalia, aged 9.

It might leave you hoarse but it’s not Christmas without it. Oh no it’s not! The is showing at from now until Christmas Eve. Get your tickets now!

🌊 Introducing Becky Cannon, the RNLI’s Youngest Female Coxswain 🌊

As the marks its 200th anniversary, Ramsgate proudly welcomes its newest coxswain, Becky Cannon, who has made history as the youngest woman ever to achieve the title in the charity’s history.

At only 24 years old, Becky is at the helm of Ramsgate’s powerful 2,100 horsepower Tamar-class all-weather lifeboat. Her connection to this legacy runs deep, tracing back to her great-great-great uncle, and she proudly carries on the tradition alongside her father and grandfather, who have both dedicated themselves to the RNLI in Ramsgate.

Coffea Arabica is run by a committed team of passionate, professional and dedicated coffee lovers, and its founder Daisy Rollo is now running courses to train baristas from a studio in Ramsgate.

Coffea Arabica, which was first established in London, visits coffee plantations especially to meet and learn from the farmers and pickers involved in the specialty coffee industry. They then endeavour to share this information with baristas and coffee enthusiasts so they understand the origin of their product and get the most out of it.

Specialising in training people to make the perfect cup of coffee, or to run a successful coffee business, people can enrol on one of their courses in either basic or Intermediate Barista skills, a Latte Art course, or a sensory course where you will learn how to taste and recognise the different flavours and aromas in single origin coffees.

Daisy told us; "Our training courses are designed for all, whether you are an amateur enthusiast wanting to learn more about your favorite beverage, a student wanting to master the technique before applying for a barista role or an entrepreneur ready to open a new venture.”

As well as attending yourself, you can also treat someone you love to one of their workshops by purchasing a gift voucher, enabling them to enrol on a course of their choice.

For more information on their courses, you can go to coffeaarabica.co.uk

Or send an email to [email protected] and they will respond within 24 hours.

In the iconic words of Slade: IT’S CHRISTMAS!

Storm Bert has put a spanner in the works, but he can’t stop the festive feeling! Join the Christmas fun (safely) this Sunday as Ramsgate kicks off the holiday season with its Christmas lights switch-on. The celebration will unfold throughout the afternoon, featuring face painting, Santa’s grotto, indoor stalls, arts & crafts, and other festive fun. **Due to the storm, please check for updates on activities.** There will be something for everyone, with the lights officially turning on around 4:30 PM.

Sunday also marks the launch of Ramsgate Lumiere, an exciting new festival that will transform the town for six weeks during the holiday season. Beginning with the Christmas lights switch-on and culminating in a New Year’s Eve lantern parade, draws inspiration from the magical display of illuminated boats in the harbor. This festival aims to enhance the existing holiday lights with an array of installations, projections, and events, ensuring Ramsgate shines brightly throughout December.

The Lumiere festivities will kick off at , with a “Let There Be Light” event. You can expect mesmerizing light projections both inside and outside the church, along with live music and tasty mince pies.

As part of Ramsgate Lumiere, local shops will also take part in Light Up Ramsgate, a trail showcasing light-based artworks created by commissioned and guest artists. These vibrant displays will transform shop windows and vacant storefronts into an illuminated gallery along the High Street, available for viewing daily from 3 PM to 10 PM for the whole of December. For a full list of local participants and locations, be sure to check out .lumiere.
