Heavy cloud cover will continue tomorrow and into early Saturday as the remains of Hurricane Francine clip parts of southern Missouri. A few isolated showers are possible, especially with eastward extent, but unfortunately, not much measurable rain is expected for the next few days.

This is a project focused on the tornado outbreak on May 8th, 2024, primarily across southwest Missouri. I hope you enjoy this presentation and the studying I’ve done to put this together.

Rain chances increase today and tomorrow as a cold front moves into the area. No flooding or severe storms are expected but frequent lightning will be a threat. Remain weather aware!

Hot and humid conditions will persist today with rain chances possible the rest of the week and into Labor Day Weekend along with a much needed cooldown early next week

Extreme heat will continue today and into the middle of the week. Then some rain chances should return by Thursday/Friday along with a much needed cooldown into the 70s/80s to kick off next week

Last severe threat for this active week with a potential line of thunderstorms moving into the area. A lot of things remain uncertain at this time but damaging winds will likely be the main threat. Remain weather aware!

Some minor damage has been reported across the area from last nights storms which proves that severe thunderstorms can happen any time of year. Even in an unusually active 2024, last night was one of the worst severe thunderstorm events of the year

That being said, the weekend looks a little cooler with highs back in the 80s by early next week with some additional rain chances Sunday night into Monday. Remain weather aware!

The highest severe threat of the week is in play with widespread thunderstorms expected again tonight with the main risk for wind gusts up to 75 mph and possibly some large hail up to golf ball size. Remain weather aware! (Timing likely between 12am-3am)

After some thunderstorms moved in this morning around Joplin, Missouri, additional storm chances are possible across the entire area this evening into tonight including a risk for some isolated severe thunderstorms. Stay weather aware!

A strengthening line of thunderstorms will be moving into southwest Missouri within the next hour. Wind gusts up to 60 mph is possible. Remain weather aware this morning!

Confidence continues to increase that widespread thunderstorm activity will be ongoing Monday morning with isolated severe thunderstorms possible if storms can get organized. Rain chances will be hit and miss for the rest of the week with possibly some severe thunderstorms possible but the overall rain outlook for this week remains unclear

After a week of exhausting heat, cooler temperatures are on the way along with rain chances across multiple days starting on Saturday and possibly ending as late as Tuesday. While rain activity will be scattered, temperatures will remain in the 80s for the majority of next week.

Even with the extreme heat continuing into next week, a slim chance for severe thunderstorms exists this evening going into tonight mainly along and south of I-44, with some pop up thunderstorms developing along a boundary. Stay safe from the heat!

A severe thunderstorm outbreak is possible today for much of the area. Storms will be hitting the area late tonight into early tomorrow morning (12am-5am) Stay weather aware!

The very active severe weather stretch continues with some severe thunderstorms capable of producing mainly large hail are possible today from 5-10pm. After that, tomorrow looks very concerning in a possible tornado outbreak especially across eastern Oklahoma and Kansas before we close out with some severe weather on Sunday, but Memorial Day should be dry.

While we are in one of the quieter weather days of this week, I want to take a minute and remember that an EF5 Tornado hit Joplin, Missouri on May 22nd, 2011. I can’t believe it’s already 13 years since this disaster struck, killing 161 people, and it may very well be the reason I am doing weather today. So let’s all remember those people who were deceased on that tragic Sunday. 🙏🏻

A tornado watch has just been issued until 10pm for eastern Kansas, western Missouri, northeast Oklahoma, and Northwest Arkansas. The main threats are hail up to softballs, and a few tornadoes. Everyone stay safe out there!
