13 November marks the Anniversary of the death of our patron Antal Doráti (1906-1988)

Antal Dorati was born in Budapest. At the age of 14, he entered the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music / Liszt Ferenc Zeneművészeti Egyetem, where his teachers included Bela Bartok and Zoltan Kodaly. Upon his graduation at the age of 18, he became a coach at the Budapest Royal Opera, where he made his conducting debut in 1924. He unquestionably became one of the most distinguished «conductor-composers» of the 20th century. In his long conducting career he appeared with virtually every major orchestra in the world and became the musical director of several of the most celebrated of them.

The 3rd edition of the Antal Dorati International Conducting Competition was held a year ago in September 2021.

The Final Concert and Award Ceremony at the magnificent hall of the Liszt Ferenc Zeneművészeti Egyetem - Franz Liszt Academy of Music, Hungary, with the amazing musicians of MÁV Szimfonikus Zenekar, saw on stage the two winners of the edition: Rémi Durupt 1st prize and Omar El Jamali - Conductor 2nd prize.

Celebrated on stage, all the semi-finalists of the competition - excellent conductors, all of them having great musical careers. We remember with gratitude the fantastic work of the Jury! 🙏
