Leeds jazz band Amon Ra Collective, fuse fiery drum and bass with modal jazz in Awakening, a single from their debut album. Inspired by the music of Miles Davis’ electric Jazz Fusion, John Coltrane’s Free Jazz and the spiritual world music of Don Cherry.

Using the melody as an improvisational springboard, Reece Fogg (Alto Saxophone), Quehebi Davila (Keyboard) and Samuel Ehret-Pickett (Trumpet) lead the ensemble down different improvisational avenues.

The musicians on this track are all part of the vibrant Leeds jazz scene belonging to groups such as Fergus Quill’s Imaginary Big Band, Ancient Infinity Orchestra (Gondwana), Nika Ticciati’s Cataclysm Ensemble, Afrodesia and Rushbonds.
