If you’re in the West Palm Beach area tomorrow, September 21st, come to the Rainbow Palooza, a free festival of kindness for kids and families. It’s at the Meyer Amphitheater from noon-8PM. I have always had a thing for afternoon tea! 🫖

Ever since I spent a semester abroad in England my Junior year of college, it’s been a thing. I even have an afternoon tea Pinterest board I look at when I want to relax 🤣☕️.

Sandwiches just taste better when they’re small and have no crusts.

So it was lovely spending the afternoon with my mom yesterday at the Serenity Garden Tea House sipping tea, eating tiny tea sandwiches, and feasting on scones, jam, and clotted cream. Silly hats are a must of course because we’re so fancy. 🤗

It’s been exactly six months since I started working as the KidVision producer at South Florida PBS and it’s been quite a ride!

Everything was held up for months while they were trying to find a producer so I basically had to jump into production on day one with a brand new team. We had to cram almost a year’s worth of production into six months.

And I’ve loved every minute of it! Penny Bernath, Alexa Kaufman, and the rest of the KidVision Pre-K team are such an amazing group of passionate, talented people and I’m so lucky to work with them.

Not gonna lie…it’s been a crunch getting everything done while also getting ready to launch Page Turner’s Online Adventure Library.

Oh, and in the middle of all this nuttiness, I was audited by the state of Florida and had to fill out about 10,000 forms then fill them out again because they weren’t right and then one more time just for kicks. It took weeks and weeks and in the end I wound up owing—wait for it—$1.67. Not a typo. I owe Florida one dollar and sixty seven cents.

So…yeah…

I’ve been pulling quite a few 12 and 14 hour days and haven’t had a lot of time to connect with friends (July, everyone! I promise! 🤣). So when my wonderful friend Donna Gephart texted me yesterday and asked if I was surviving or thriving, I had to think about it for a moment. But I realized the answer is THRIVING! Yes, it’s hard work. Yes, I’m tired. Yes, there have been more than a few nights where I’ve had Hagen-Dazs for dinner (Hello, Vanilla Swiss Almond! 👋), but I LOVE what I do! I love the people I work with. I love my job. I LOVE my business. I love it all. Except for the audit. But I do love that I only owe $1.67.💰🤣

Here are a few more photos from the magical photo shoot at the Old Florida Bookshop last week. I love these pictures so much. I think they perfectly embody the character of Storyologist Page Turner. They also represent a shift in my business, my focus, and my life.

For many years, Page Turner Adventures was all about live performance. I’m so proud of the interactive story theater shows we created and performed around the country and even parts of the world (Hello Shanghai and Hong Kong!).

There is absolutely nothing like performing a story for thousands of children and feeling them hang on your every word, seeing their faces and imaginations light up, and hearing their laughter. It’s magical. There were so many times when I was on stage and I’d kind of step out of myself and think, “This is the most amazing thing in the world.” And I got to do it with my partner and husband.

With the pandemic, we shifted to creating virtual summer reading programs for libraries. And this was also magical. We’d always done video production along with the live. But this gave us the chance to create and innovate in a way we’d never done before. Hell, we created hybrid live action musicals that I’m so incredibly proud of. Plus, tons of craft, recipe, and author interview videos. So freakin’ proud.

Now it’s time for another shift. Not exactly sure what that’s going to look like. I definitely plan on marketing all of the content for kids from from the past four summers (so much content!).

But I’m also excited to start sharing ideas and programs with parents, especially homeschool parents. I’ve realized that I love creating story-based out-of-the box ideas that encourage imagination and creativity. And, I’ve realized that not everyone can do that or wants to do that. So, I’m looking forward to share these ideas.

I’m also going to focus more on my writing, which has taken a back seat over the past few years. But the truth is, I really am a Storyologist, and I LOVE writing.

You might have noticed that I’m using the word “I” quite a bit and that Kenny is not in these photos. Kenny is onto a new adventure. He loves to perform and to production manage live theater and is currently doing that with the awesome Puppy Pals show.

I’m excited to see where things go from here with Page Turner Adventures and with my work in general. I’m also trying to show up more in general and these photos (and a few more to come) are a part of that. Stay tuned for the next chapter.

So, three days ago, I decided to create a brand new program to help kids deal with BACK TO SCHOOL STRESS. I'm shooting the videos tomorrow and we're releasing them next Thursday or Friday 🤞. I know so many kids are stressed about back to school and I have so many great techniques from our old Test-Taking Programs, I thought they could really help. This is going to be my first program that's for the HOME MARKET. It will have all kinds goodies with the videos and a FREE ebook for parents.This is not therapy, it's just some fun simple exercises that young kids can use in any situation. Okay, back to work on the scripts.🤣 Yeah, I still have to finish them. Yeah, the shoot is tomorrow. Yeah, I'm a little stressed. No, the irony is not lost on me. 😎

A few years ago we worked with Resource Depot to create a bunch of crafts made from upcycled materials from their reuse center. This WORD WREATH is one of my favorites because it uses old styrofoam packaging (which makes me nuts!). YES, I know we're tearing up books. OUCH! But you can use old encyclopedias or books that would otherwise get tossed at garage sales, etc.

Oh, and this project uses an exacto knife and/or electric carving knife, so it's not for kiddos! (Although they can certainly do it once everything is cut out!)
