Normallly this page would not engage in the type of politics where we would use a politicians family members against them however given the unique circumstances it is felt this is worth raising. Unless some of you of have been living under a rock, Canada and the rest of world has spent the last year and a half fighting a deadly pandemic that has claimed millions of lives. As part of the many tools humanity to keep cases down and return things to normal is vaccines and the vast majority nations are engaging in mass vaccination drives to protect their populations. Recently Krista Ford Haynes, the daughter of Premier Doug Ford went on instagram to express skepticism towards vaccine science and that instead of pamphlets encouraging vaccination, they ought to distribute bibles instead. While understandably no child let alone a politicians 100% agrees with their parent nor are children beholden to the parents jobs, this situation is different. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and disagreement is a healthy part of democracy, however there is a level of responsibility that when expressing opinions one needs to ensure those opinions do not cause harm. We are currently in a situation where high levels of vaccination are needed to ensure the pandemic ends especially with the new variants, and unlike other opinions and the gravity of the pandemic, skepticism towards vaccine science has, is and will continue to cost people their lives. Furthermore as the child of the premier, the opinion does carry weight as people who express skepticism towards government and vaccine will be validated saying look the leaders own family doesnt believe in this, and cast doubt on the vaccination rollout. Given the stakes this is completely irresponsible and unacceptable.
