Be Resolute, Be Radiant: A Love Letter to 2025

Peace of mind remains the ultimate goal.

As we step boldly into 2025, I haven’t crafted a list of resolutions in the traditional sense. Instead, I have chosen to remain resolute—unwavering, firm in my convictions, and steadfast in my determination. This year, I dedicate myself wholly to the interconnected harmony of Spirit, Soul, and Body. I will pour love into myself unapologetically and love my people even harder.

I’ve learned the beauty of embracing each day as an opportunity to grow beyond who I was yesterday. Growth is not linear, and neither is life, but I am committed to this daily refinement. I will continue to release the burdens that no longer serve me, open my arms wide to the blessings that aid my journey, and fiercely reject anything that threatens to hinder my evolution.

This is the life I’ve chosen—a lifelong journey of trial and triumph. Let me tell you, I stumble, I fall, and sometimes the weight feels unbearable. But I am no failure. Every time I fall, I rise. I dust off my knees, lift my chin, and press forward. This journey is not for the faint of heart, but it is mine, and I am relentless. I’ve mastered that whole “keep on keepin’ on” thing, and I carry it like a badge of honor.

Some of the most transformative decisions I’ve ever made were born from the simplicity of a resolution. If you resolve to be better this year—if you dare to dream bigger and walk taller—do so unapologetically. Pay no mind to the naysayers or those who ridicule your aspirations. Let them watch as you rise.

This is your life, and no explanation is necessary.

In 2025, I am walking boldly toward the life of my dreams. I will write stories that awaken souls. I will publish works that ignite flames in others. I will continue to guide and inspire others to heal their minds, bodies, spirits, and souls. And above all, I will embrace my unstoppable nature. My journey is one of strength, grace, and purpose, and nothing—no obstacle, no storm—can deter me.

So, my sister, my brother, my kin—if you feel the call to step into your destiny this year, answer it. Be resolute in your determination. Be radiant in your light. Walk your path with pride, knowing that it belongs to you alone.

Let us keep rising, keep loving, keep dreaming, and keep creating magic in this world. Because we can. Because we must. Because we are.

YEAR IN REVIEW... This year I returned to writing in a special kind of way. I introduced the Dr. Elissa brand. I had trouble finding my rhythm after my father died. I wanted to start the series of books with a profound narrative that would have a legacy as long as I blew fresh air into it. So I started this off with the "You are enough series" and dedicated this four-part series to black women.

The way society regards black women at times sickens me so this was my response 🖕

My daughter and I were nominated for Anthology of the Year for the 2024 African American Literary Awards Show for "The Breakthrough: Beauty for Ashes."

It is both fruitless and damaging to your spirit to look for acceptance from anyone who does not have the strength to carry you, the grace to cover you, and the capacity to love you fully and unconditionally. Life is too precious to spend it seeking validation from those who lack the ability to nurture your growth, honor your worth, and uplift your spirit. Surrounding yourself with the wrong people will leave you depleted, questioning your value, and struggling to shine in spaces that are too small to hold your greatness.

Instead, choose to do life with the right people—those who celebrate your victories, stand by you in your struggles, and see the beauty in both your strengths and imperfections. The right people inspire you to dream bigger, love deeper, and rise higher. They have the courage to hold you accountable, the humility to offer forgiveness, and the wisdom to provide guidance without judgment. These are the people who walk with you, not ahead of you or behind you, but beside you in solidarity and love.

You must also be your own best advocate, your biggest encourager, and your unwavering source of forgiveness, admiration, motivation, and inspiration. You owe it to yourself to champion your own dreams, honor your own boundaries, and believe in your own potential. By loving yourself fiercely and unapologetically, you create the foundation for others to love and respect you in the same way.

Feel the exhilaration of victory by thoroughly and unapologetically having your own back. When you do life with the right people—and when you include yourself among those people—you create a life that is abundant, joyful, and limitless.

Be courageous in your love for yourself and discerning in your choice of companions. Be bold in your belief that you deserve the very best, and unyielding in your refusal to settle for less.

The legendary Nikki Giovanni passed away today, leaving a legacy that resonates deeply in hearts worldwide. Her words, bold and unrelenting, shaped generations. She was more than a poet—she was a voice, a force, a movement. Today, we reflect on her life, her art, and the fire she ignited in us all.

Born June 7, 1943, in Knoxville, Tennessee, Nikki carried her roots with pride. Her early years in Cincinnati and summers in Knoxville shaped her worldview. Family and community were central to her upbringing, grounding her in love and resilience. These influences became the foundation of her powerful storytelling.

As a young girl, Nikki found solace in words. Her grandmother’s wisdom and her teachers’ encouragement fueled her passion. By high school, she was already crafting stories that reflected the beauty and struggle of Black life. Her voice began to take shape—a voice that would soon roar.

In college at Fisk University, Nikki’s activism and artistry collided. She embraced the Civil Rights Movement and found her rhythm as a writer. Her first collection, *Black Feeling, Black Talk*, emerged from this period of awakening. It wasn’t just poetry; it was a call to action.

Through the 1970s and 1980s, Nikki expanded her reach. She wrote for children, spoke to elders, and inspired peers. Her work blended personal reflection with cultural commentary, always speaking truth to power. Albums like *Truth Is On Its Way* brought her poetry to life with gospel’s soul-stirring energy.

In later years, Nikki’s voice softened but never lost its edge. She explored themes of love and loss with grace. Collaborations with musicians like Javon Jackson revealed new dimensions of her artistry. Even as she battled illness, she remained vibrant and creative.

Today we mourn Nikki Giovanni’s passing but celebrate the light she left behind. Her words live on in classrooms, on stages, and in our hearts. She taught us to speak boldly, love fiercely, and never stop fighting for what’s right. Rest well, Nikki—you’ll always be heard.
