…. I adore my son, Gabe! When he is happy, I’m happy! Over the years we have tried to take Gabe to baseball games, but every time I would feel scared of what could potentially go wrong. We would have to bring multiple people with us to be sure that we could safely have him experience these things. Some of the concerns I used to have had to do with managing all the things Gabe used to need to have with him along with my things and managing him! Bathroom trips were a big source of anxiety. Every step of the way there was an obstacle to get passed. It was never enjoyable, just something we tried to get through.
Now, we are aware the the organization works with many music and sports venues in our area to create accessible and sensory friendly spaces for families like ours!

When our friend Penny offered us tickets to see the play I was excited, not scared! We have learned over the last year that Nats Park is one of our favorite places to go with Gabe. The staff are all aware of autism and have only been accommodating and kind to us when we have attended games.

I am sharing this because I have felt like giving up many times. I’m not scared anymore!

Penny hooked us up with accessible seating and everything went so well! We had no problems at all!

This has been a great birthday! I am just so happy and appreciative of how much Gabe gets to experience now that we know about what is offered to families touched by autism and other disabilities!

ARTICLE: 'I Have Asperger's, Here's What Everyone Gets Wrong'

"I want people to understand that having Asperger's does not mean you are an alien from some exoplanet. We have feelings, such as pain, sadness, hurt and loneliness, and we perhaps feel these more strongly than the common neurotypical person due to the discrimination we face."

We often feel pain, sadness, and loneliness more strongly than the common neurotypical person.

A shining example of community care for people with ASD in Mississippi - “We are one of the few libraries with an autism center in the state. We have a lot of libraries come and look at our collection and look at our resources for ideas of what to do. We connect with a lot of the autism services and clinics in the area as well,” Hopper said. “I think the impact is really what people make of it. It is profound in the sense that for those who find and use it, they find great comfort and feel seen.”

As children gather around the plush chairs on the second story of the Columbus-Lowndes Public Library, Tori Hopper sits down to read “The Wide-Mouthed Frog” for their monthly sensory story time.

"Growing up, “the social cues were not intuitive ... I would just tend to take things very literally" Elon Musk opened up on Thursday about his experience growing up with Asperger's syndrome, or autism spectrum disorder.

Why it matters: Most adults with "invisible disabilities" such as Asperger’s conceal them professionally to avoid stigmas and potential discrimination, research has found.

There are relatively few known examples of successful entrepreneurs and business leaders with Asperger’s.

.. Some of the decals have buzz words on them, to alert emergency personnel to specific behavior. Words like "Non-verbal", Hyper-sensitive" and "Flight".

A Paulding County sheriff's detective has designed a decal that can notify first responders they're about to encounter a person with autism so they won't misread a situation.

Via TMZ : Cop Punches Autistic Teen in Face and Threatens to Hurt Him More.

Preston's dad, Adam Wolf, posted this ... "The officer screamed at him to sit down which he did. The officer then moved Aggressively toward my son, threw his scooter and got in his face. My son became fearful, as would any child with Autism. The officer went to touch Preston, at which point Preston moves away. At this point, Preston was confused and afraid and moves away from the officer even more."

Adam goes on ... At that point the officer felt it was a good idea to THROW Preston to the ground ... I don't believe that Preston will ever trust a police officer again. I am pro police, but I am not pro ABUSE!

A 17-year-old boy with autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder was punched in the head by a cop, who threatened even more punishment.
