Joey Votto believes the Cincinnati Reds should trade Elly De La Cruz for as many prospects as possible.

During an appearance on Foul Territory TV on Thursday afternoon, the former Reds first baseman shared his thoughts on how Cincinnati should approach building for the future.

“I would trade Elly (De La Cruz) for as many prospects as possible,” Votto said.

Votto also suggested the Reds made a mistake by signing him to a 10-year, $225 million contract extension in 2012.

“They should have flipped me at year 4.5-5,” Votto said, arguing that Cincinnati would have been better off trading him rather than committing to a long-term deal.

Votto spent his entire 17-year MLB career with the Reds and remains one of the most accomplished players in franchise history.

Former Cincinnati Reds first baseman Nathaniel Lowe isn't buying the idea that teams need massive payrolls to compete.

Now with the Cleveland Guardians, Lowe is part of an organization that has reached the American League Championship Series despite operating with a smaller payroll than Cincinnati.

Meanwhile, the Reds, who spent more on their roster in 2026, failed to reach the postseason.

Lowe's message? Winning isn't necessarily about how much money an organization spends. It's about its commitment to building a winning team.

It's an interesting perspective from a player who has spent time in both organizations, and one that raises questions about the Reds' approach to roster construction.

The Reds and Oswald Peraza have agreed to a one-year deal worth $1 million, with a chance to earn an additional $200,000 in performance bonuses based on plate appearances, according to Mark Sheldon.

The deal avoids arbitration for Cabrera, who was projected to earn $1.1 million. He made $1.2 million with the Yankees in 2026.

Cincinnati has been picked to finish tied for 8th in the 2026-27 Big 12 Men's Basketball Preseason Coaches' Poll as Jerrod Calhoun prepares for his first season as head coach of the Bearcats.

The Bearcats received 116 points, tying West Virginia for 8th place in the 16-team conference. Cincinnati was picked ahead of Baylor, Oklahoma State, Arizona State, UCF, Colorado, Kansas State and Utah.

Arizona was picked to win the Big 12, receiving 12 first-place votes, followed closely by Houston with four first-place votes. Kansas, Iowa State and Texas Tech rounded out the top five.

Calhoun enters his first season at Cincinnati looking to establish the Bearcats as a contender in one of college basketball's toughest conferences. The preseason poll places UC right in the middle of the Big 12 standings heading into a new era of Bearcats basketball.
