His expertise is apparent by his courses in yacht design at Evergreen State College in Washington and his boat reviews that have been published in every issue of Sailing magazine for over 40-years.

A pretty exciting development announced by Apple today that could be very helpful to sailors. The new iPhone 14 will have emergency satellite connection capability, effectively turning the phone into a PLB. Pre-programmed messages and brief compressed texting capability will be available to communicate with rescue services.
There's not a lot of detail on cost yet, other than that two years of the service will be included with the purchase of the iPhone 14 and it will be available in the U.S. and Canada in the next few months.

There have been some challenging conditions on the Newport Bermuda Race course but things are lightening up a bit for the bulk of the fleet, while a few speedy front-enders are nestled into the dock in Bermuda.
A mid-Monday update:
A dozen boats have finished the 635-mile journey with sailors regaling their sea stories of big breeze and waves on the thrash down. Now, with the bulk of the fleet closing in on the final 100 miles the winds are getting lighter making the last bit the slowest. The Bluenose Yacht Sales Tracker is showing boat speeds already dropping but closing in on the tiny island. We expect to see many in the front of the pack cross the St. David’s Lighthouse Finish Line tonight where there will be Dark N’ Stormies awaiting their arrival.
The latest to finish is Dudley Johnson’s Prevail the Tripp 65 today at 12:42:24 with an elapsed time of 70:32:24.

The Sailing Education Association of Sheboygan (SEAS) in conjunction with Harken recently modified a Sonar for sailors with disabilities. Today they took out the boat for its first sea trial, with an able-bodied sailor at the helm using bite switches to steer and buttons to trim.
