Unfortunate fact of life #313: If you're paralyzed by feeling overwhelmed with things to do, one of the easiest ways to conquer it is to actually make your to do list longer. No, not by adding more stuff. But by breaking down what’s already on your list into smaller things. In the latest episode of Sugar and Spikes, we talk about how sometimes when we’re too stressed to record, we take baby steps. We break it down to, 1—go to the room where the podcast stuff is. Then we check in and see if we want to keep going. If so, step 2—hook up the equipment. Then check and see how we’re feeling. By doing small steps, it helps you feel like you’re actually getting stuff done and helps build up your sense of efficacy for the larger elements of the task. That’s why it’s so common for people to write things like, “wake up” on their to do list. Because we gotta take the credit whenever we can to do the bigger things that matter. Want to hear more tips and tricks to get more done while reducing your anxiety and general sense of being overwhelmed? ✨Sometimes we all need the gold star. If you are having a really bad day and the only thing you can do is think about one thing to accomplish, that makes the day a win. Sometimes that means building something, sometimes that means leaving space for rest. Sugar and Spikes is something I’m beyond passionate about and I try to dedicate 3 or 4 hours a day to it. Most of the time, that’s great. Sometimes, my one thing is to simple post on social to help promote the brand. Sometimes, it’s giving the brand some space and taking the day off so I can come back refreshed. If you’re building something, especially something on top of a full time job and family, your one thing can and likely will look different day by day. And that’s more than okay. The easiest way to set yourself up for consistent growth is to celebrate your wins, however they look. What can you celebrate today? ✨
The times we have to come face to face with hard lessons to learn are the moments that change everything. Do you give up an throw in the towel? Do you get defensive and come up with 101 reasons why it's not your fault? Do you ask for help? Do you ignore the feedback from the universe and just keep going? There are an infinite number of ways to respond to falls and failures. But I think what's so interesting about those moments is that so often, our brains go into fight or flight and come up with some sort of way out or path forward. Often in ways we would have never thought of if not faced with having to acknowledge the situation. 🖤
We're so bogged down with, noise and just mind numbing bullsh*t, that we don't have time to process how we're moving through the world. And it's making us stressed out. It's making us less productive in a positive manner. we're filling our lives with these kind of menial tasks that don't survive any more than 10 minutes or make any sort of real difference. Maybe it's time to do something different.
Maybe it’s time to do something different. Or, maybe it’s time to realize things are different and you’re processing what’s going on. Sometimes it’s not even that you really have to change anything, not always, sometimes it's just having the awareness of how you respond to change— knowing where you are in the process and how you’re moving through it. We're talking about this and so much more on the latest Sugar and Spikes podcast. Find it wherever you get your podcasts or on sugarnadspikespod.com
