Sunday’s message

In memory of Rodger Hannel.
I feel so blessed that he was my principal, my teacher, and my lifelong friend.

A new chapter begins

Ecclesiastes 3:1

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

I have thoroughly enjoyed writing the Sunday messages for many years. it has gone so quickly! Someone asked me how many hours it took me to prepare for a message, and I remember replying,“ Honestly, it never takes me that long, that is how I knew it was a gift from God because it flowed so easily from my pen.”Messages each week seemed
to just pop in my head and I never had to struggle for one.

This year marks a new chapter in my life. I temporarily live in a nursing home, I will be moving into a new house, and I have started new endeavors . I still will be supporting widows and orphans throughout the world, and I encourage you to do the same.
But for now, I will cease from doing Sunday’s Message.
I have made good friends, and I have been encouraged greatly by the love and support that I have received from
them. This is just a new season of life for me, and I look forward to what God has in store.
To me, life is like a huge roller coaster ride, and we are riding along with our arms thrown in the air, laughing and screaming, until the Almighty says it’s time for the ride to be over.
Towards the end of his life, my father asked the Lord's for one final push, one final blow, before his ship came into port. I believe God honored.his request and gave him 20 more excellent years . To me, those were his best years.
I guess now, I’m close to that same point in my life.(He was 62 when he made that statement, I am 59)

Keep the faith, fight the good fight, and always remember, God is good even when life is tough.

Sunday’s message

Today’s devotional is as a page from a book that I love detailing the life of George Mueller
I have often said that I want this type of faith, but I have found is that it’s easier to read about it than to actually live it out.

hree hundred children were dressed and seated for breakfast, and a prayer of thanks was offered for the food. But there was no food! Situations like this were not unusual for orphanage director and missionary George Mueller (1805-1898). Here was yet another opportunity to see how God would provide. Within minutes of Mueller’s prayer, a baker who couldn’t sleep the night before showed up at the door. Sensing that the orphanage could use the bread, he had made three batches. Not long afterward, the town milkman appeared. His cart had broken down in front of the orphanage. Not wanting the milk to spoil, he offered it to Mueller.
It’s normal to experience bouts of worry, anxiety, and self-pity when we lack resources essential to our well-being—food, shelter, health, finances, friendships. First Kings 17:8-16 reminds us that God’s help can come through unexpected sources like a needy widow. “I don’t have any bread—only a handful of flour in a jar and a little olive oil in a jug” (v. 12). Earlier it was ravens that provided for Elijah (vv. 4-6). Concerns for our needs to be met can send us searching in many directions. A clear vision of God as the Provider who has promised to supply our needs can be liberating. Before we seek solutions, may we be careful to seek Him first. Doing so can save us time, energy, and frustration.

Sunday’s message

I need a miracle

Miracle-a surprising and welcome event that is not explicable by natural or scientific laws and is therefore considered to be the work of God

Miracles are a reminder of God’s love and unwavering ability to perform wonders.

Psalm 77:14
You are the God who does wonders; You have declared Your strength among the peoples.

Luke 1:37
With God nothing is impossible

The Bible is full of miracles by Jesus. He turned the water into wine, raised the dead, and fed the 5000. His whole life was surrounded by the miraculous. But isn’t that what we should grow to expect from God? Because God’s ways are higher than our ways and His thoughts are not our thoughts, so when does He something, should not we expect it to be the miraculous?
God 🙏 is concerned with every detail of our life, and we do not always need a miracle. Maybe some days we just require $20 so that we can pay a bill, and to attain that $20 would not take a miracle. It may
just take us working an hour of overtime or borrowing the $20 from a friend.
But occasionally, we require God to work in the miraculous just so that we see Him, and we know that He is working on our behalf. In my opinion, I don’t believe it angers God to ask for help at any time. There may be times, He allows us to work out our problems because He knows it will cause us to grow.
But would it anger you if your child asked you for help just because he wanted you there? Not because he could not in someway overcome the obstacle without you, but because he just wanted you next to him, and to hear your reassuring voice, your opinion, and wisdom. I know I would simply love that.
It would show me that my children value my opinion and wanted me to be involved
So it is the attitude we come to God with that is important. We should be humble people and not out for self gain. God never minds when we ask Him out of a humble spirit and a contrite heart.
And remember this verse:
Hebrews 11:6

But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Dear Lord, may we see the miraculous today and be reminded that you are working in our lives.

Continue to pray for our sister Brenda, that her strength is renewed and her TMJ subsides.

Sunday’s message

sometimes it isn’t about you.

Suffering for Others
What is not so well-known, however, is the notion of suffering or penance on behalf of others so that the suffering can actually help them to attain salvation. God can and does apply the suffering of Person A to the soul of Person B, to benefit the latter. This is part and parcel of the Body of Christ
Seton magazine, Feb 24, 2015

Romans 5:2-5

And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; and patience, experience; and experience, hope: and hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost

When I was battling active multiple sclerosis, I remember laying in front of the toilet, beating the side of the tub with my fist, and yelling at God. I recall that in my mind very vividly because I was at a very, very low point and just could not understand why God would be doing that to me.
Now that I have recovered from that terrible disease, I realize that by going through that I am able to minister to millions of people and give them hope.
So you see, really that trial wasn’t all about me, it was going to yield greater fruit for many others.
Many times as we go through a trial, our focus becomes centered on ourselves, and it may not even be for us. God has given us strength to get through the battle, and although it may be difficult for us, God already knows that we will get through it, and it really was not about us, it is about the people who were watching us
people constantly are watching our lives, and we are not even aware. They want to know if the God we serve is real, and if we will crack under the pressure of all the trials, and reject our God.
To question God is normal, we do not understand. To reject the creator, is not normal. That is a lie of the enemy.
When we look at Job, at all the pain and suffering that he had endured, the Bible tells us that he did not sin by rejecting God, rather, he fell on his face and said these words:
“ Naked I came and naked I shall go, Blessed be the name of the Lord.”

What faith that must’ve taken!
God had really blessed Job, and Satan tried to say he only worshiped God because God was blessing him.
God 🙏 had indeed blessed Job, but that was not the reason Job chose to follow God.
Do you also bless the name of the lord in the hard times? Sometimes that could be rather difficult I know. But that is what we are to do. Whether we are going through some good experiences, or the worst experiences of our lives, we should praise the name of the Lord
As I’ve stated here before I support missionaries, widows, orphans, and single mothers. If I do not pay on time, sometimes they want to remind me of my commitment.
Possibly I’ve had a hardship that has slowed up a payment. So it is not always just one person, that is not receiving, it is multiple people. But when you are going through a physical hardship, it is hard. Our focus becomes just us, and we are not looking at what others are going through.
I remember one time a gentleman was complaining to me that he was getting tired after working out three times a week and wondered whether his multiple sclerosis was causing that. I told him that was like me walking into a cancer ward, and telling the person laying in bed with stage four cancer, that I had a terrible cold, and I wondered if they thought I would get over it quickly.
Many times we are going through
A very tough situation, and although there are people going through things much harder. Although we can empathize with them, it doesn’t make us feel better necessarily that they are experiencing something worse.
Have faith, regardless of your situation, God has not left you and God has not forsaken you. Many times we just need to hold on, bow our heads, and pray for strenght.

Please continue to pray for Brenda that she grow stronger and that her TMJ leaves.

Sunday’s message

Understanding the missionary, and the mission

Mark 16:15
And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.”

“God 🙏 is more concerned about the missionary, than he is the mission.”
Mel Duke, who was my mentor.

It is easy to quote the saying like the above to, pastors, and those that are involved in ministry. It is not often you have to say it to someone not involved in full-time ministry. It happens to everyone though, people get caught up in helping their children, grandchildren, or their friends. But by ministering to others, they lose their focus on the Creator. You cannot minister to others without first being plugged in with your heavenly. When we are having daily time with God, His love will flow into us, and then it will flow out of us to the people we love. We are to share the gospel with everyone we have contact with. We have all been called to do that. But first we need to realize how important we are to God and how our relationship to him is more important than anything. As I am writing this, I am very convicted. I frequently tell people to pray for me and to pray for other things that people are going through. I rarely think about my creator like I should. Do you know how often God 🙏 would just like you to sit and listen to him? We cannot fathom is deep love for us, God is everywhere. And we know that God is love. That means when you woke up this morning that God could see you and loved you just because you take that love for granted and do not show that love back to him. I am too busy being about the father’s work.
Many times we put God in a box. And sometimes in that box, we have loving others and doing God 🙏 work. There is no room in the box for God 🙏
Personally, I’m going to make more of an effort, to just sit and listen to God. He created me, and he loves me, sometimes I’m so busy that I forget that.
I have to admit to you, many times, I find myself doing things for God 🙏 because I know it pleases him and I think this is my way of showing Him how grateful I am for my salvation.
But from now on, I’m going to try to just sit and focus on my creator. As I do that, I know his love will flow out of me, and I know I will be doing things with Him and not for Him.

please continue to pray for our sister, Brenda, that she might get stronger after cancer treatment, and that she would be healed from her nerve disorder and her face

Sunday’s message

Loving with all my mind

Matthew 22:37

Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’

In short, loving God with the mind is to allow the mind and the heart to work together in a way that produces deeper knowledge of God. This knowledge in turn leads to a more intimate relationship with God where God is loved both intellectually and emotionally.
(copied from the Reb May 2023)

If someone were to say to you, how do you love God with all of your mind, what would you say?
Does that mean every thought that comes out of your mind should be about God? That’s just impossible.
I will share with you what that means exactly to me.
God has put a head on every man’s shoulders. I often say to men,”Use the brain that God gave you.” Does that mean that every man should be able to think or answer in a particular way? That is totally ludicrous . Yes, there are questions or problems to which there is a definite answer, and so we may think like another human as far as the answer. But that is not what I’m talking about. God has uniquely designed you to think a certain way. Use your brain to think about God and to fill your mind with Him. No two brains think exactly alike. That is the way we are made. If we were made to think the same way as the next person, we would be a robot.
God created people, and gives each man free will, and the ability to think.
I believe that to the best of my ability I should always be learning. That is the way God created me. I think to stop learning, in a way, tells God that your mind is full. You should always be filling your mind with useful things.
My father taught me until his deathbed, as a matter of fact, some of the most by valuable lessons I learned from him were when he was dying. He was loving God until he took his last breath. I want to be the same way. I would like to give glory to God until He stops my lungs and takes me home.
Use your mind, learn about God, and share with others. We serve an infinite God, and we will never be able to contemplate everything about Him. But what you do know, share with others. That is one of the reasons you were created.
I remember my mentor, Melvin, Duke, made a bod decision when he was about 54 years old. It was a very hard lesson for him to learn. I remember him saying.,” I guess I’m just not done learning.”
No matter, whether we are young, or we have some gray hair, we need to always be growing our mind and loving God.

Remember, the first commandment is to love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, soul ,and mind

Please continue to pray for sister Brenda. She has TMJ, and this is a very, very painful nerve condition in your face. I also had it, and I think it’s the most painful thing I’ve ever endured in my life. Please pray God gives her some relief.

Sunday’s message

Battle from your knees

Ephesians 6:12
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.

I have read this many, many times. And I often tell people to do battle through prayer.
But I’ll admit to you, I worry, just like you do. I try, try, try, to help the situation out with all my wisdom and strength. Then I’ll finally come to the end of myself, bow my head, confess to God I’ve tried to do it in my strength, and then ask him to help me. I still continue to do this at 58 years of age. It shows man’s condition and how we still want to rely on our own power, and always have an answer.
The truth of the matter is, you will not always have an answer, you will not understand things. We all need to walk with God 🙏 every day. We see His awesome power when we are on our knees.
It’s all part of submission and letting go. See, while we are standing we want to fight with our strength, but our fighting is done on our knees. When we have our headstone
s.bowed, our eyes are closed, and are on our knees, that is total submission to our Lord. It shows to Him humility, as we remember that we are merely dust.

As you’ve read this, there are things you are battling in your flesh, you may be deeply concerned or even terribly worried.
Maybe you need to just bow your head, close your eyes, and say a simple prayer.
Listen for the Holy Spirit to speak to you, God still speaks to people in a soft, still voice. Listen for His voice, and do not open up your eyes and look at things around you. Our battle is in the spiritual realm and cannot be seen with our eyes.
Jesus said,” My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: John 10:27. Notice, Jesus did not say,” My sheep, see my wondrous works, and follow me.”

Many times praying is what we should have been doing the whole time.

Please continue to pray for our sister, Brenda, that God would heal her from her TMJ.

Sunday’s message

Seek godly counsel

Proverbs 11:14

Where there is no counsel, the people fall; But in the multitude of counselors there is safety.

Recently, I had made up my mind to move to Colorado. St. Louis, Missouri no longer felt like home. I looked at all the benefits of being there, a beautiful place to live, good friends lived there, and there was a good church that an old friend Pastored there. I felt it met all of my needs currently. Furthermore, I had used all of my wisdom and came up with that conclusion. Yup, Colorado was the best place for me right now.
I spoke with my Pastor friend in Colorado, and told him of my decision.
He basically asked me to slow down and give it more thought.
Although the points he brought up, I really didn’t think applied to me, the one thing he said that really ministered to me was, to go slow, and seek the Almighty.
I have to be honest, I had mostly come to this conclusion before talking to God. I had decided this would be my best move right now. Likewise, I had several points and good reason I should leave and start my life new in Colorado.
But as I began to really contemplate the move, I found my heart begins to change, and though there was no relationship, with family, the church, or employment that kept me here, I found I wasn’t ready to move yet. I had looked at my future, and had concluded that was where I should be. I just forgot to ask the Lord if that was where He wanted me to be.
The Bible says tin the multitude of counselors there is wisdom. A multitude is more than one. And we should seek godly council from mature Christians, especially for big decisions. But we should not lean upon man so much that we do not hear the voice of the Almighty telling us what to do.
When God is in something, I've found that my counselors nearly always confirm what the Almighty is telling me. But it is good to have that affirmation because every so often our needs and desires can lead us to a conclusion that is not from God.
In life, especially on big decisions, we need to fast, pray, and seek the Almighty. We also need to look to our counselors for wisdom.
I realize now that I had not done that, but instead had used my wisdom. So for now, if you want to come and visit me, I will live in the St. Louis, Missouri until the Almighty tell me somewhere else to go.

Please continue to pray for Brenda that her TMJ would be healed.

Sundays’s Message

Our Family

Mathew 12:48-50
46 While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother, and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to him. 47 Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.”

48 He replied to him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” 49 Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. 50 For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”

People should always put the family first. But a problem among Christians is, they don’t truly know who is their family.

Jesus, our King, our Savior, and our Lord, teaches us, that family includes the people that we are “born again” with and who also are in the body of Christ. That when we were born again, that we are born into a new family.

When I was a child, it was common in churches to refer to a man as brother or to the women as sisters. That is a true representation of those who are also born again. They are our brothers and sisters in the Lord.
We love our siblings that we were raised with, and refer to fathers, mothers, Aunts, uncles, and cousins as “blood relatives.” We share the same DNA as they do. But they are not to be elevated above people that are born again and are in the body of Christ
That is a concept that is hard for some to grasp. They have made family a god. They elevate their earthly families above their heavenly ones. What good does it do to love your brother or sister, and yet, they are doomed for hell without Jesus? I know for some, that may be rather difficult to hear. You naturally love your sons, daughters, grandchildren, mothers, and fathers. They may have given you housing, food, money and supported you here on earth. But that is not what gets you into heaven. Only the blood of Jesus can do that for you. So while you do have a love or affection towards them, you cannot let that blind you to the fact, if they do not have Jesus in their lives when they die, they will spend eternity in hell.

I was writing this devotional, and an old friend, that I was in church with in San Diego, gave me a call. I knew that was God showing me that this person is truly my brother. We have remained close friends for over 30 years. I have a bond with him that is strong. I know I could call this man day or night, and he would help me. He has truly been my brother all of these years.

I have said this before, and I will reiterate it again, that is, people that are born again are truly your relatives in Christ and they deserve to be treated above others. Treat them like the brother or sister in Christ that they are. Bless them when you have the opportunity and show them the love that God has put in your heart.

Note:
I am going to be starting something new, that is our prayer for the week. If you have a specific that you’d like, prayed for by everybody, please contact me.

This week we continue to pray for our sister Brenda.
“ Dear Lord, we pray for Brenda, that you would touch her body, and heal her from TMJ,amen.”

Sunday’s message

Finding God

Jeremiah 29: 13

And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.

A few years ago, a man was doing maintenance for me, and was telling me this story.
He said that he was out of work, and he knew he should probably just go home and call people and ask them for a job. He was really struggling to find some money and employment.
Furthermore, he then said this to me:,” I knew I could go home and seek employment, but I decided instead to go walk around the park and look for God 🙏.”
After walking around the park, and praying about what he should do, he walked home, and his answering machine was blinking showing that he had a message. When he played the message, it was a man asking him if he would trim some trees for him. The job paid about $750.
I was very convicted by his show of faith and that he wanted to find God first and not a job or money.
To man, the obvious thing to do would be to go seek employment. And I think most of us, if we were advising this man, would have advised him to find work and get a job.
The Bible says if a man does not work, he does not eat. That is a problem in the United States, we allow people not to work and we feed them anyway. I’m not proposing that we starve people, I’m just saying if they are able-bodied, that they work, but that is another devotion.
The thing that struck me about this man’s story was that God did not allow him to languish nor struggle once he had decided to seek Him. I’m not saying that every time you seek God things will always turn immediately, but when you seek God 🙏, with your whole heart, He promises that He will be found. God will comfort you. He loves his children, and He loves to bless us.
How do you know when you're seeking God with your entire heart? The Bible says the heart is deceitful and desperately wicked, only God really knows, all we can do is seek Him sincerely. If we are misguided, He will direct us in the way we should go.

Are you struggling today? Maybe you need to go for a walk and look for God 🙏. We know that if we search for Him, we will find Him.

please continue to pray for Brenda and her TMJ.

Sunday’s message

Anticipation

Titus 2:13

Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;

Biblically, to “anticipate” is “to be driven by the Spirit of God” to “foresee,” and “act in advance” to “what is being brought to your attention.” In Exodus 12:11, Moses instructed the Israelites, “…thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it quickly: it is the Lord’s Passover?” So, just as God “stirred up His anticipated purpose for the Israelites,” so by faith allow the Holy Spirit to “open your eyes, to His purpose,” to “make room” and “know what’s yours by faith.”

In America, in the 1970s, there was a commercial on television for Heinz Ketchup as the little boy was pouring a bottle of Heinz ketchup, and the song anticipation was being sung as the ketchup slowly oozed out of the bottle.
When I think about the word anticipation, it brings to mind Christmas when I was a child. As morning would rise on Christmas Day, I would be full of anticipation at the thought of ripping open presents to see what kind of goodies awaited me underneath all that wrapping paper.
It’s funny how as I read about the word, many people anymore anticipate evil, and not good. But I hear the word anticipation, I think about something good, that is getting ready to happen, and I am eagerly awaiting it to transpire.
As I began thinking about future events, I noticed I was thinking negatively about things and not expecting them to change. I was instead thinking things would be worse or not get better. So I guess you’d say that I anticipated bad and not good
I found myself really studying my thought process and asking God to change my heart and the way that I thought about things.
Although I may think good thoughts, when I think of the word anticipation, I found that the world has influenced me to fear. When I thought about future events, there was a fear that things would stay the same or even get worse. When we have expectations and time limits, anticipation can turn negative.
We should always be eagerly anticipating things that happen here on earth, and our eventual end, which is heaven. Try today to eagerly anticipate good things, we serve a good God, and He is going to cause good things to happen in our life. Anticipate the good that He will bring.

please continue to pray for Brenda and her TMJ. It is a excruciating nerve condition in her face and it’s very painful

Sunday’s Message

God, I am tired

Mathew 11:28-30

8 Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest for your souls.

30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Last week, as I was struggling through a trial, I just felt that I had nothing left to give. I felt worn out and defeated. All I could say was,” God help me.”
We tend to do that, as we look to ourselves to fix all of our problems.
We get worn out, and we cry out to God. It is that point that we are humbled and realize we have tried our best, now it’s time to relinquish all control to the Almighty. I don't understand why we always forget the simple fact that God is in control, and we see must trust Him.
As I was writing this devotional, I knew that I had written similar things in the past. It shows our fallen state, and how we rely on ourselves at times.

In Exodus 4:13 we are reminded what Moses instructed the people to do:

And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever.

I think the hardest thing to do many times is nothing. To allow God to continue to do the work and for me to do nothing but to pray can be very hard. As I write this, I am humbled because I know that I’ve gotten to this point several times in my life. I come to the realization that I have been here before, and now I have returned. It shows my sinful state, and how man relies upon his strength, and does not yield to the Almighty.
So today, once more, I am going to admit how frail I am, how small I am, and humbly ask the Almighty to take control of my life. What we must realize is that God is in control, and he is already doing what he is going to do.

Please continue to pray for Brenda that she be totally healed from her TMJ, and that the cancer never comes back.

Sunday’s Message

Our Response To Sin

James 5:16

Berean Literal Bible
Therefore confess the sins to one another and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man being made effective prevails much.

What should our response be whenever we know that we have done wrong? Should we cry? Shall we help the poor or needy more? Ought we go to church more? Must we try to be nicer?
The Bible tells us that we should repent. To repent means you’re going in one direction, and you turn around and go in the opposite direction.
The Bible also says to confess our sins to one another. That shows our fellow man that we also sin, and we humbly ask them to pray for us. God loves a humble spirit. What this verse shows us is how we should humble ourselves and show our fellow man that we are a sinner, and we also are fallen. We also will walk in send sin if we aren’t following Jesus.
In Romans 3:23, we are reminded:

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

I admit at times I am rather flippant about my sin and I do not take it seriously. I know that every sin that Christ has paid the penalty for.
I don’t think I contemplate at times, what He actually did for me. Not only that, but I just have the attitude that Christ has paid the price, therefore, I should do nothing.
That is true, our sins are forgiven. But we should never take sin lightly and live in sin because Christ has paid the price.
So what do I think our response should be?
1.Confess your sin to God, and ask for forgiveness.
2. Confess your sins to your fellow man, and ask them to pray for you
3. Repent, go in the opposite direction and stay away from sin.
4. Daily read your Bible and fill your heart with God’s words.

The Bible says, ” Your word have I had in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” Psalm 119:11

There is an old saying about the Bible that you have probably heard. It goes like this:
“Sin will keep you from this book, or this book will keep you from sin.”

Please continue to pray for Brenda. Pray, God continues to completely heal her her cancer. And pray that God would touch her jaw and that her TMJ would totally go away.

Always remember in everything to give God the glory. He shares his glory with no one. He will use man(doctors) to accomplish his mission, but He does not share his glory. Always remember this.
