🏝️ island location details ⬇️
This escape is an island in Florida!! And closely connected to Sarasota / Bradenton. It is less than a four hour drive from Miami and right around the corner from Tampa 👀😍
while browsing the map for a quick road trip, I saw how close the island would be to a location I needed to visit anyway and decided to plan a two night stay on the island.
I’ll do more detailed post on everything i did there, but first, let this be a reminder that sometimes all it takes is looking at a map and wondering “what’s over there?” to plan your next adventure.
It took only a couple of days for me to decide that yes I’m gonna see what this is all about. And it was just the slowcation I needed. ❤️❤️
The island is 🥁🥁🥁 (drumroll please)

exploring the outdoors in Florida means exploring a whole new terrain! No, you won’t find mountainous peaks or sprawling deserts – but you will find diverse and complex ecosystems that are so important to the environment!
I can’t wait to explore the Everglades, go boating to my hearts content, enjoy the natural springs and turquoise ocean, and see much more of the state.
if you had some outdoor adventures in the state of #Florida, let me know which things you love!
Some of my favorite places thus far after years of exploring the state:
- Sarasota and St Pete Beach for proximity to the best beaches
- Miami for wellcations, bustling city life, and dining
- the Keys for amazing water adventures
- Naples for great dining
- Marco Island for kayaking mangroves
- St. Augustine for charming Spanish architecture
and more!

omgggggg 🤯🤯🤯
My mind is still blown thinking about the experience exploring this mysterious underground city in Türkiye.
The 20,000 people didn’t live in Derinkuyu’s underground tunnels all year round, but it was believed that they had periods when they did. during times of war and plague would be the most common, as well as extreme weather.
Here are some travel tips if you want to explore this an ancient attraction in Cappadocia :
• you can visit on your own or as part of a tour. I chose the “green tour” with a local operator (which is a full day Cappadocia excursion, and visiting Derinkuyu was part of it). If you are going the tour route, make sure you ask for the itinerary beforehand because sometimes the tour will take you a different underground city, but you want to visit this one DEEINKUYU as it is the biggest one in the world.
• when visiting, please stay close to your guide and please follow the signs. There are blue and red arrows indicating which way to go toward the exit/entrance. We had one person in our group who kept going off on his own for pictures and he ended up misreading the signs, getting lost minutes before we finished, and accidentally trekking back to the entrance. There are a lot of stairs levels deep, so needless to say he was exhausted by the time he emerged.
• you may have issues if you deal with claustrophobia. The deeper you get into the city’s tunnels, the more narrow it sometimes gets. The narrow tunnel stairwells are believed to have been made that way to deter the opposition from getting in during times of war. There is surprisingly a lot of space in the rooms and halls. Also, if you have asthma, you may want to consider not going deep into the tunnels. I personally have asthma and found the airflow to be good enough, but I don’t deal with claustrophobia and so it was not an issue for me. But those two combined may create an issue for some folks. Please consider your own situation before hand and
Tips for finding a great hotel with good views in Cappadocia! (Hotel details in the video)
In Cappadocia the thing to do is stay at a hotel that can offer you stellar views of the hot air balloons at sunrise, as well as beautiful accommodations in a stone or cave room.
I really wanted a cave room at first but the more i researched and read reviews the caves were well… caves. So different hotels’ reviews often called them dark and damp.
Instead i opted for a stone room which has a touch of that cave room feel but also can be built on higher so has windows and fresh air.
If you are going in the summer i recommend getting a pool too. They are not as common but it is so hot outside that it would’ve been nice to cool off! My hotel had amazing air conditioning and the stone room stayed cool thankfully!
Now for views - there are so many options! The balloons literally fly over the valley so any hotel that has a rooftop is going to have a fun view but you have to make sure their decor is accurately listed. So many hotels have epic photos and then you get there and the props are no longer there. I recommend messaging the hotel directly to make sure there is a sufficient photo area for you (if you care about this).
Also - breakfast! I am so so happy i got breakfast included at my hotel bc it was delicious!!!! The food in town can get redundant (and isn’t cheap) so i loved the fresh fruits and breakfast spreads.

Travel can be a source of self-care. A self-care adventure that isn’t exclusive to just wellness retreats.
As someone with an autoimmune disease, travel has been immensely impactful in my wellness journey. I use it as an opportunity to find self-care adventures that are filled with beautiful scenery, relaxing nature, and wondrous escapes. It helps me reduce stress, which helps me prevent flares.
I love sharing travel tips not only to help you travel more, but for you to see the things i specifically do as someone with lupus, who needs experiences that are calming and fulfilling.
On this side of the internet we value slow travel, beautiful destinations, and breathtaking experiences that keep you in awe of this beautiful world. Stick around!

omg it was actually exhausting to do the math and make this video but some folks asked about cost so please share this if you found it helpful. 💕
💡Other Bodrum travel tips to consider:
• we were already in Turkey for our trip so add on flights from your home airport if going straight there. If already in Turkey it was so cheap and quick to fly Pegasus to get to Bodrum airport (way better than the long bus ride)
• 2 of our dining experiences were on the higher end bc it was our anniversary so you could almost reduce that restaurant budget by half if that doesn’t matter to you. Same goes for alcohol: bottles of wine are absurdly expensive at these restaurants and you could just go to the supermarket for it instead.
• a significant cost in our excursions came from a huge day trip to Ephesus. Most people visit Ephesus from Izmir, but we didn’t have time to visit Izmir so instead we found a guided tour from Bodrum.
