Blaze Culture

Blaze Culture have been filming the evolution of the Legal Cannabis Movement since 2009 when California enacted the fist medical ma*****na bill in the U.S.

The owner was an extreme sports film maker ( and avid consumer ), living in an illegal grow house in the Hollywood Hills. It became an obsession to show the painstaking process the grower goes thru to eek out a dangerous living fraught with under-covers and highway check points. It quickly became apparent, growing is an art form and these modern day scientist were pushing plants into ever better strains.

The Culture surrounding the black market endeavor was also very colorful. as were the magazines, websites, events, and new businesses being born and injecting millions of dollars into the local economies and used for good causes. It lead to a mutual activism against the lies that had been told for generations, hatched by those with the most to lose... The Pharmaceutical, chemical, and wood industries.

We filmed the earliest dispensaries on Sunset strip and around L.A. Before Weedmaps had dispensary tours on their site. That lead to work for Discovery studios producing sizzle reels for a possible cannabis entertainment show. They sent me and a team into Humboldt for reggae on the river to investigate interesting personalities, their successful w**d business, and the evolving attitude of local law enforcement. That show was later hatched as “ Harborside” America’s first Reality TV show about a cannabis dispensary in Oakland Ca.
