Rod Milam - Broadcaster/Producer/Documentarian The page for Rod Milam, broadcaster and producer. Here's the Facebook home for the online radio program "The Show with Rod Milam".

This is a restart of the FM broadcast program that Rod had back in the mid to late 1990s based in St. Louis, Missouri, USA that focused on a great mix of music and some funny regular guests. This time, there will still be great music by great artists, and we'll try to have some regular guests too. But this time we'll also feature interviews with many musicians and artists both live, in-studio and

over the phone/internet. You should follow everything related to the show on YouTube, Twitter, and Instagram by searching for "ucitykid88" and you'll find us there. Please "Like" this page and subscribe on YouTube and Twitter now!

A big congratulations to the Chelsea Film Festival and its leader Ingrid Jean-Baptiste on the opening of the 12th edition of the festival tonight! Sorry that I couldn’t be in NYC this year for the show and run some Q&A sessions like I was able to do for the 1st, 2nd, and 10th programs, but I’m sure that your fabulous collection will be fab once again. Hopefully, I’ll get to be there next year to speak with the filmmakers and actors from around the world once again!

Tonight, October 16, 2024, will be the big debut of the 12th edition of the Chelsea Film Festival in New York City, and it will run through October 20th.  I found out about the first festival when I lived in The City from the founder, Ingrid Jean-Baptiste . Before that, she’d been only a

Last week, I had the chance to sit down and speak with the CEO and President of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, Marie-Hélèn Bernard during that evening's show’s intermission on St. Louis Public Radio.

By this time in the program, Marie-Hélèn had already talked to the audience in a pre-concert address where she updated everyone on the progress of the Powell Hall construction and refurbishment. We talked about other construction details, the coming season's programming, and continued community evolvement all around the St. Louis area.

In this blog post there's a link to the brief, live interview that I had with the organization's head.

I had the chance to talk to neuroscientist Dr. Rebecca Schwarzlose. She’d just released her first general audience book, “Brainscapes: The Warped, Wondrous Maps Written In Your Brain - And How They Guide You” by HarperCollins and Mariner Books. Dr. Schwarzlose holds a Ph.D from MIT, is a researcher at Washington University in St. Louis and is the past chief editor of the journal “Trends in Cognitive Science”.

The book explores how the neural pathways in the human brain are actually hard written maps that can be measured electrically and occupy specific physical spaces in all brains.

Anyone that is going to be in the St. Louis area this Thursday can come to a set of small group discussions about racial, gender, and socio-economic issues that have long plagued the St. Louis area with the goal of making the region a better place.

I’m going to take part in this discussion by being one of the facilitators so that the station can record the thoughts and discussions of community members so that the station can be more informed about the state of where things stand in the region on these important topics.

It’s time for the start of the 2024 - 2025 season of broadcasts of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra on St. Louis Public Radio!

I’m back for my 3rd season as one of the broadcast hosts along with my co-host Dr. Lauren Eldridge Stewart. This year I’m going to try a little something different and post a preview video like this on social media!

So, with that said, coming up starting on Saturday night, October 5, 2024 at 7:30pm Central Daylight Time we'll have the season's debut broadcast.

Music this week will be by Antonín Dvořák, Gabriela Lena Frank, and Alberto Ginastera. And during intermission, we'll have interviews with the guest conductor of the evening Cristian Macelaru, SLSO flutist Jennifer Nitchman, and SLSO President and CEO Marie-Hélène Bernard.

So if you miss it live, you can still listen on the STLPR app and on the St. Louis Public Radio website.

Well…for many reasons, things have certainly slowed down on the site update front. But, hopefully, things will be getting back to normal and I’ll be able to post more regular content on the site and on the social media pages.

Local hosting NPR's " Morning Edition " for St. Louis Public Radio for the week of September 23, 2024 for Mike Schrand. It's 6:30am in this shot, which means it took me about an hour and a half after being on the air to remember to get an image...

Well that does it…5 years in a row without stopping. 5 years of doing some sort of language learning, no matter what language (other than English) and not missing a day.

I can’t say I thought about hitting this mark when I started this app in those barely pre-pandemic, before-times days in mid-2019, but I will say it was about the only positive thing that came out of all of that madness.

Learning new languages and refreshing previously learned ones in their country of origin was a life goal of mine when I left The States in 2000. Using “apps” on a “cellphone” weren’t even within my imagination before I landed in Japan 24 years ago. Doing the learning in country and in-person was truly the best option.

But with the unanticipated twists and turns in life over the last generation of years, I am certainly glad that I was able to pick this need of mine back up when circumstances beyond anyone’s control knocked me off of my “in-person” desired path.

Maybe I’ll be able to get back out there someday. But in case I can’t any time soon…these internet tubes will do for time being…
