The second in her space opera series, A Desolation Called Peace creates a better scenario and the characters are more believable, with Eight Antidote coming into his own. A good read despite a few jarring plot machinations.

The Galaxy and the Ground Within is another triumph of alien character building from Becky Chambers. Temporarily trapped on a transit planet, 4 sapient species grapple with their differences and similarities, lubricated by sugar cakes from their host. Profound and hopeful.
