Proof of our thriving music scene has been the emergence of new music festivals taking root throughout the region. One of the latest festivals to appear on the DMV's music calendar is the Annapolis Baygrass Music Festival, taking place at the gorgeous eastern beach at Sandy Point State Park along the Chesapeake Bay in Annapolis, Maryland, on September 21st and 222nd, 2024.

This festival includes the likes of Oteil Burbridge, The Infamous Stringdusters, Leftover Salmon, Sam Bush, Kitchen Dwellers, Sierra Hull, Daniel Donato, Cris Jacobs, Trouble No More, The Lil Smokies, The Dirty Grass Players, Big Richard, Geraldine, and many more. In addition to a stupendous lineup, there will be three artists at large this weekend, creating a world-class brass ensemble to the lineup featuring Jennifer Hartswick, Natalie Cressman, and local legend Ron Holloway.

The trio performed the 18-song set with steady enthusiasm and humility while the crowd eagerly exchanged energy with them, resulting in a palpable joy for the hour-and-a-half show. DMV and Virginia native opened this exciting and electric evening of music.

Trey Anastasio and the National Symphony Orchestra performed together on a picturesque evening at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts on June 25th, 2024. Perhaps the only thing as beautiful as the venue's lush green lawn nestled in a national park was the intricate, resounding, and uplifting music by Trey Anastasio and nearly all of the NSO's ninety-six musicians. The evening was filled with three orchestral debuts and included masterful orchestral arrangements that echoed deep into the woods of Vienna, Virginia, as Harry Hood found himself drawn into the musical canvas and palate of John Williams. The audience was symphonically transported to the Land of Nod somewhere over the rainbow, and their troubles melted away like lemon drops as The Man Who Stepped Into Yesterday walked beside Indiana Jones.

We are excited to see Six Foot Blonde head out on their first national tour. This energetic indie-pop group from Bloomington, Indiana, is heading to Washington, DC, on July 12th when they perform at Pearl Street Warehouse. Originally a local college band, the group transformed into a national touring act within a year and a half. This will also be a night of DMV music because this sextet from Bloomington has invited Humbalaya and ROSCOE TRIPP to join them on this spectacular night of music down on the wharf.

With the music industry back in full swing, the 2024 festival season looks to be a banner year. Festival announcements and updates have been popping up left and right almost daily. One of our favorite festivals in the region, the Appaloosa Festival, returns yet again for what should be a glorious 2024 edition.
The lineup already includes Scythian, Carbon Leaf, TopHouse, The Gothard Sisters, Smoke & The Poet, and much more. In fact, just before we went to press the festival organizers announced JigJam will also perform.

We have spoken to the creatives behind the future lineup announcements, and while we cannot disclose who is yet to be announced, please trust us when we say you are not going to want to miss Labor Day Weekend at this festival. The festival is holding its cards close to its chest right now, but in the next few weeks, it will reveal some big lineup announcements.

To say The Soul Rebels have a diverse portfolio would be an understatement of how one might explain this band and how many artists they have collaborated with or the wide range of music they incorporate into their performances. If we want to get down to the real nitty-gritty of it, in fact, there are very few musical acts that can say that they have done what this band has. We had the opportunity to speak with Marcus Hubbard fresh off of their New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival appearance.
This extraordinary band will perform at The Howard Theatre on June 20th, with special guests Ghostface Killah and GZA.

With two outstanding years under their belt, the creative geniuses behind The Ramble Festival are back to capturing lighting in a bottle and have announced the lineup for their third festival. After a year off FloydFest is returning to a brand-new location in Floyd County, Virginia. The news of FloydFest 24 was met with joyous celebration. FloydFest 24 ~ Horizon is all but sold out, with only limited single-day General Admission and Pair+Parking bundles remaining. This is going to be one tremendous five day music festival. This Sunday night check out Sticky Fingers: A Night of the Rolling Stones, where six of DC’s leading ladies of indie rock, pop and blues are coming together for a one night only tribute to the iconic 1971 album "Sticky Fingers." The album will be performed in its entirety along with other favorite Rolling Stones classics.

Vocals by Deanna Bogart, Jenny Langer, Carly Harvey, Holly Montgomery, Patty Reese, and Sunny Trippel supported by a powerhouse band of Christopher Brown, Billy Coulter, Keith Grimes, Jon Maurer, Ben Tufts and Ken Wenzel. Special guests The Boneshakers, Melinda Colaizzi and Kristian Habenicht complete this spectacular night celebrating one of the most beloved rock bands in history.

As we enter the summer concert season, everyone should be reminded that Merriweather Post Pavilion is the crown jewel of outdoor concert venues in the DMV and the best place to spend a summer evening. For the third time in a year, Hozier performed in the DMV as part of his Unreal Unearth tour - each time selling out the venue within mere minutes. Under the twinkling glow of stage lights, Hozier performed from the full breadth of his incredible catalog of music - soulful, serene, and explosive in nature. Hozier's performance at Merriweather was a journey through sound and emotion that resonated deeply with everyone present, and Allison Russell's opening performance perfectly set the stage for his coming set.

As the oldest theater in Washington, DC, The Miracle Theatre was the site of its own miracle when John Moreland performed to a packed house last Tuesday, May 7th. Fellow Oklahoma native, Ken Pomeroy, opened for Moreland. With only himself, his guitar, a collection of harmonicas, and a Waterloo water, Moreland's acoustic set was met with an electric applause with each final chord. Like a stare off into the distance, his music is thought manifested: a visceral sensation and an accumulation of anything that is knotted and twisted in your brain and body.
