Excerpt: (About seven years ago I found a slave manifest from St. Vincent and the
Grenadines dated in the late 1700 on one of the ancestry sites. In that manifest I found enslaved Africans given the name Lowman; They are my ancestors. This poem is based off of that.)
Title: Dreamwalker
Last night
I had a dream.
I was in chains.
Captured by a pirate
named Lowman
planted on a sugar plantation
in Chateaubelair.
Enslaved
on a tiny island
that in the waking world
my feet have never touched.
My eyes gaze
at the Caribbean Sea
and towards
the Grenadines.
Paradise quickly
turned to hell
by the whip
at my back.
Flesh split open
blood trickles
from
back
to glutes
to hamstring
to ankle
to Vincentian soil.
If only
I could grow
a new me
from blood
like seeds
and that man
would be free.
Instead, I toil
in chains
on a British colony.
Bound in an
ancestorial dream.

Speak to the Mountain is a book of poetry meant to be read from cover to cover, from beginning to end in order to complete the thematic storyline.
Speak to The Mountain is the second book in the series: Tales of The Soul. This book picks up where the first book in the series, A Million and One Stories to Tell, left off. Partially inspired by the events following the murder of George Floyd, Speak to The Mountain confronts issues surrounding historical systemic racism and oppression of the African Diaspora. With the help of three archetypical figures; The African, The Stranger, and The Poet; the reader is taken on a journey of self-discovery, healing, and reconciliation.
