Reflect on this Christmas message. It's so good.
The Return of the King
Luke 21:27–28 (NIV®)
“At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”
There are very few movies where the sequel is better than the original. I’m sure we can all think of some sequels that should never have been made! But I know with absolute certainty that the sequel to Christmas is going to be incredible. You see, Jesus is coming back, and when He returns to Earth the second time, it won’t be as an infant. He won’t be returning for a pleasant stable scene, as a meek Lamb to be offered as a sacrifice for all humanity. He will be coming as a conquering King in power and great glory. His arrival won’t be limited to a small village on the outskirts of Jerusalem—it will be a global event, both in scope and in implication. He will shake the heavens, and the whole world will know He’s here. So, prepare your heart. Get ready. Be alert. I don’t know about you, but I want to be found serving Him when He returns, and all the trivial and temporary things of this world fall away. Christmas isn’t the end of the story. The return of the King is near!
THINK ABOUT IT
The material trappings of the Christmas season can be distracting, but let’s not forget what’s more important. “So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal” (2 Corinthians 4:18).
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, thank You for the privilege of celebrating Christmas and the entrance of Your Son into time. I pray that I would not be distracted by earthly, material things but keep my eyes on eternal things. I don’t want to be ignorant or so engaged with the world that I miss serving You and sharing Your love with others. Help me remember that You are returning one day in all Your glory. And when that day comes, I want to be found ready. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Blessings,
