The Louisa Sheriff's Office says a female body was found at Lake Anna on Saturday. Around 2:15 p.m. on Saturday, the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office received information about a body that had been found floating in the water of the main part of Lake Anna.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the body was transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy and identification.

The Sheriff’s Office said it has been actively searching for an individual who is believed to have possibly drowned earlier this spring in an area further up the lake from where Saturday’s body recovery occurred.

Anyone with information about this investigation is asked to call Louisa County Sheriff’s Office at 540-967-1234.

Effective immediately, Shenandoah National Park’s streams and rivers are closed to fishing due to low flows and high water temperatures.

Dry conditions have led to extremely low stream flows throughout the park, including some river sections that are completely dry. Hot weather has also led to high water temperatures. Despite some rain on Wednesday, June 26, river flows remain low and are expected to continue dropping with continued hot, dry weather.

Low flows and high temperatures create extremely stressful conditions for fish, and dissolved oxygen can decline to fatal conditions. The additional stress of angling during these conditions could harm the native brook trout populations, which are already low across much of the park. This closure is for all streams within park boundaries including both open-to-harvest and catch-and-release waters. The closure will be lifted when stream conditions improve. Stream flows are expected to remain low until significant precipitation occurs across the area.

Although it has been rare for the park to close fishing in the past few decades, it was done in response to drought conditions in 2021 and 2023.

Stafford Fire and Rescue has been providing 4th of July safety tips on their page this week. Here are a few of the reminders:

Fireworks and alcohol don't mix. If you are planning on using legal fireworks for your celebration this 4th of July, do not operate fireworks while under the influence of alcohol or other substances that could impair your judgement.

Improperly discarded fireworks have caused several fires across Stafford County over the past several years. If you plan to safely use legal fireworks this 4th of July, be sure they are used in an open space, away from combustible materials and soak discarded fireworks in water, away from your home, before disposing of them.

Did you know that sparklers can burn as hot as 1200° Fahrenheit? Play it safe and use caution this 4th of July with sparklers and fireworks. We love our community, but we would hate to spend the 4th with you because of a sparkler or firework injury.

SAWs Virginia has been selected to receive a 2024 AARP Community Challenge grant. SAWs Virginia Founder Charlie Russell says they are one of 343 organizations selected out of over 33-hundred applications nationally. He says the grant means they'll be building multiple wheelchair ramps for deserving persons in the Rappahannock region.

“We are incredibly proud that AARP selected SAWs Virginia for this investment to make Rappahannock area more livable for residents of all ages," Russell said. “AARP is a nationwide leader in making communities more livable and we are honored that they see the tangible value this project will bring to our area.”

SAWs volunteers build ramps-usually on a Saturday-around the area.

The AARP Community Challenge grant program funds innovative, quick-action projects in areas such as public places; housing; transportation; digital connectivity; community resilience; and more. With additional funding support provided by Toyota Motor North America, the program is also increasing its investment in pedestrian safety projects that will improve streets and sidewalks, create vibrant pedestrian infrastructure, and engage community members.

This is all part of AARP’s nationwide work on livable communities, which supports the efforts of neighborhoods, towns, cities and counties across the country to become great places for all. Update 8:32 AM: Less than 75 members remain without power. Crews continue to work to restore power to all members.

Update 5:57 AM: Less than 400 members remain without power. For the outage in the Cabin Point area of Westmoreland County, crews have replaced or repaired at least 4 poles, including several critically important ones, while crossing two bodies of water, enduring rain and wind, and dealing with visibility constraints. Lineworkers and technicians will continue their efforts to restore power to all members.

Update 5:03 AM: Restoration crews worked throughout the night and have restored power to more than a thousand members. About 1,000 members remain without power.

We would like to thank our crews for their steadfast dedication to the restoration effort, and our members for their patience and understanding.

Update 9:50 PM: Multiple outages have now been reported throughout the service region as severe storms continue to roll through the Northern Neck. More than 2,150 members are without power in King George, Westmoreland, Richmond, and Northumberland Counties. Lineworkers continue to make progress despite the adverse conditions of the storms.

Update 8:52 PM: About 815 members are without power in the Glebe Harbor, Cabin Point, and other nearby areas. Crews have been dispatched.

Update 7:57 PM: Power has been restored to about 200 members. About 350 members remain without power. The majority of outages were caused by trees and limbs falling on lines or equipment. Crews continue to make progress. There is a risk of more storms later this evening for parts of the region. More outages are possible.

Outage alert: The severe storms have caused several outages throughout the service region. Crews are actively working to restore power.

The Stafford County Sheriff's Office Traffic Safety Unit teamed up with agents from DMV to conduct scale training on Warrenton Road this week. Eight trucks were inspected and the inspections resulted in 15 violations. One commercial motor vehicle was removed from service and an overweight fine was issued.
