*Should Children get the COVID-19 Vaccine?*

The FDA and CDC have given the nod to Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine for kids 12 and over on an emergency use authorization basis, and states will begin vaccinating this age group this week. Millions of parents are now facing a real choice--and with trials underway for younger children 6 months and up, millions more families will face this decision later this fall or winter.

Is the COVID-19 shot a good idea for children? This post summarizes the reasons and evidence on both sides.

The CDC just recommended Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine for use among 12-15 year olds, following FDA approval on Monday

Great news on vaccine eligibility for kids!

💉 The FDA is set to authorize Pfizer's COVID-19 shot for ages 12-15 early next week.

🧪 For children ages 2-5 and 5-11, Pfizer plans to ask for emergency use authorization in September.

👶🏽 Fauci has previously said he expects to see vaccines available for kids as young as 6 months by Q1 of 2022 at the latest.

Is the Angel Island ferry running? What about Six Flags, or the library?

It's hard to know which San Francisco attractions for families are open and which are closed these days (and what you need to snag a reservation for three weeks in advance), so Littldata is tracking the status of 100+ (and counting!) destinations in and around the city in this handy spreadsheet:

What attractions are open, open with advance reservations, and closed today in and around San Francisco? Yes, it's a trick question, since things are constantly changing.

So, here's a listing where you can find up-to-date info on what's open, how far in advance you can make reservations, hours, and more.

FYI for Californians on expanded vaccine eligibility!

Kaiser is now showing an expanded list of medical conditions for which they may vaccinate you (see 'high risk groups' at this link: https://mydoctor.kaiserpermanente.org/.../vaccine...). This includes high blood pressure and BMI of 25+. For reference, over 70% of U.S. adults have a BMI over 25.

If you are a Kaiser member, they may reach out to you based on your medical history. Whether or not you are a Kaiser member, you can also click on 'complete an E-visit' to let them know if you think you qualify. (If you're not a Kaiser member, you'll need to first take an extra step to create a medical record number: https://mydoctor.kaiserpermanente.org/.../not-a-kaiser...)

HELLO--this one's for San Francisco parents!

It's extra difficult to figure out summer camps this year because of the 3 week session minimum, and because camps are all in different stages of releasing information as SFDPH guidelines roll out.

So I created a calendar-style listing that lets you compare session dates between camps, organized by age and location. I'll be updating it as I see more camps open registration, and will be posting this on my blog but you can check it out now--and please share any feedback!
