The Best of Cinema from the Regions : The Role of Regional Filmmakers in Troubling Times
Program 1 (of 13) : LONGING, FORGOTTEN MEMORIES
7 films / approximately 78 min
Without memories, there would be an absence of appreciation. Relationships would not be possible. Emotions would not be as meaningful; Sentimentality, non-existent. It is because of memory that stories live long. This is perhaps why filmmakers are fond of stories about remembrance; concerned with representation of memory. This program collects stories about longing, reminiscence and memory but it also includes forgetting, neglect and loss as they are all curiously inseparable. The stories, whether conscious of such themes or not (whether they are based on real experiences or not), strongly assert that it would be impossible for us to be in a state of thoughtlessness.
