When we did research for a name to our project we couldn’t believe it was available - seems like it was waiting for us...
We say Balearic Beats because the term Balearic Beat is a musical definition of something that can not be defined - a contradiction in itself - but let’s give it a try:

ibed as a wild mixture of different musical styles, out came what we today know as Balearic Beat. The fact that some english DJs came and realized the potential of this new ‘style’, taking it back to England to spread it in the clubs does not make them the inventors of BB, it makes them, if so ever, ambassadors of it. To tell the story one could easily fill several books, but at the end it comes down to a few words: It is a state of mind. A commitment to freedom, an eclectic mélange of all musical styles with one aim - to make you move. From The Woodentops to Killing Joke, from Kraftwerk to KLF, Talk Talk to Siouxsie & the Banshees, Bob Marley to Santana and crossing all electronic genres from Ambient to Trance with a smile. Balearic Beat is about the sole love of music, free of straight-laced prejudice, without any commercial aim. It is a homage to the freedom that this island breathes for so many years, even Franco left Ibiza out of his reign of fascism on the mainland, sending artists of all kind to this little island in the mediterranean sea in order to get rid of them without killing them. Balearic Beats is even more, it unites the musical spirit of the Balearic Beat with all that comes with it, a multicultural adventure ranging from a non-comforming lifestyle to a lifelong commitment towards diversity in its true sense. It is a project to enrich the island culture by adding extra value, we do not compete with other radios in terms of advertisement or collaborations with existing brands, instead we will support local companies and lone rangers to offer them the exposure they deserve. Our tools are multiple: a radio station to showcase the true meaning of Balearic Beat counting on many collaborators from Ibiza and abroad and an online platform to keep you updated at any time on what is happening in ibiza without being ‘just’ another guide on balearicbeats.com. The radio station will be broadcasting online 24/7 fueled with carefully selected sessions from our collaborators, a massive back catalogue of sessions mirroring the musical history of Ibiza from the late 80s until today reaching for tomorrow, enriched with live broadcasts from our studio in Can Chill in the mountains of San Lorenzo. These live broadcasts give life to a radio station because of the human factor, it is real people doing real music in a real studio, including mistakes and unpredictable situations. And when the artists come up to our studio they will enjoy this unique setting, when or where do you have the chance to play a radio in plain nature? We want it to grow organically and we count on the best artists this island has to offer and those take their time as well, but once we are there you will certainly want to stay with us.
