KAMRA's debut album, Shift Circuit, is a contemporary take on Chitlin' Circuits for and by Black LGBTQIA+ musicians from the 1930s through the 1960s, set to release on September 20, 2024. The roots of the album grew from “Black Gaze”, the first song composed while learning to produce their own music and studying Audre Lorde’s Uses Of The Erotic. The record is tightly packed with plucky textures and angelic yet brooding scoring.

Following a recent premiere via the Ottawa Chamber Festival, Leslie Ting's "What Brings You In" is making its way to Kingston, ON via the Kick and Push Festival

Leslie Ting’s “What Brings You In” is an autobiographical, confessional concert with interactive sound installation. Based on interview research and personal experiences with talk therapy, hypnotherapy, dreamwork, sandplay, somatics, and reiki, What Brings You In is an exploration, through a series of new music compositions, of when and where our truest selves emerge. “What Brings You In” invites audiences inward to discover more about themselves through listening, while asking “what brings you in?” to gather for a live performance in a communal space. What might we find together? Featuring Leslie Ting on violin and Germaine Liu on percussion, with additional electronics and sound design by Matt Smith.

Out now on all platforms! The new single from Kamra, “Black Gaze,” and the first from their debut full length coming this Fall, “Shift Circuit”!!!

Kamra’s debut album Shift Circuit is a contemporary take on the Chitlin’ Circuit for and by Black musicians from the 1930s through the 1960s. On the album Kamra sings a gossamer-like version of the kind of gutter blues that would make any listener blush. An erotic androgynous blizzard of lush noise, Shift Circuit takes you places you didn’t expect to go, but there is joy and comfort upon arrival. Kamra widens their signature acoustic guitar sound to include frolicsome dance beats, buoyant bass lines, weepy strings, and atmospheric synths.

Lead single “Black Gaze” was the first song Kamra composed during the early stages of the pandemic while unceremoniously toying with whimsical synth samples and avidly studying Audre Lorde’s Uses Of The Erotic.

Almost one year ago, and were joined by nearly 80 friends, artists and collaborators from around the world to celebrate the legendary Terry Riley’s 88th birthday with one gigantic telematic performance! Consisting of a new work inspired by Riley’s “Poppy Nogood and the Phantom Band,” performers from almost every continent went live at the stroke of midnight and in Terry’s own words: “It felt like the world was singing!”

On June 24th, in honour of Riley’s 89th, we will release a newly mastered recording of this performance. The first in our series of Virtual ContaQt live releases, “Poppy 88” will be available everywhere, this Monday!

We are pleased to introduce a new PPR artist: Kamra ! Their music fuses string instruments, experimental sensibilities, field recordings, and band jams. Kamra’s practice centers collaboration, painterly storytelling, and transfigurations that tend to emerge after a spiritual experience.

Meant to mimic the ache of life, "Deconstructed Foley" is slow momentum toward tears still waiting to be shed—an outcry for every single life that’s been martyred. Raw and churning, this piece asks us to interrogate our collective anti-blackness showing up in which lives we feel are worthy of our endurance.
