Who are we? Titled after a single by female Hip-Hop Pioneer Roxanne Shante, “Straight Razor” is an all female Hip-Hop entertainment news/media outlet. Journalism, much like Hip-Hop has always been male dominant. We believe that the lack of female voices in Hip-Hop does not have to equate to the lack of female journalistic opinions on Hip-Hop. DFC is an acronym for “Dope Female Critics” and is a g
roup of women writers/Hip-Hop lovers who chop up new music bi-weekly then bring the conversation straight to your devices for your reading pleasure. What do we review? Straight Razor reviews Hip-Hop from all artist regardless of race, gender, creed, and locale. While our focus is on brand new Hip-Hop, we are Hip-Hop heads who enjoy flashing back into time every now and then. Each group
music review is called a “Chop.” Each Chop is numbered and will contain a review of at least four artist of which at least one will be a little known underground artist. We will attempt to include at least one female artist in each Chop, however due to the lack of female artists available this may not always be possible. Below is a list of columns possibly populating Straight Razor..
-A review written by one member of the DFC is called a “Hash.”
-A video/visual review is called a “Cut.”
-An event review/interview is called a “Slice.”
-An op-ed/news piece about a Hip-Hop artist is called a “Hackle.”
