From the city that birthed American Music comes the latest in obsolete audio capturing technology - direct to acetate record cutting. Through unsurpassed stubborness, trial and error, and the careful study of the notes and field-recordings of preservationists such as Alan Lomax and Bill Russell, Twerk-O-Phonic Sound has begun producing some of the most unique recordings available. Inspired by the
early recordings of Bunk Johnson, Twerk-O-Phonic began in the summer of 2016 and has since gained a reputable following from both lovers of vintage music, as well as some of New Orleans' finest jazz and blues musicians. Based in New Orleans on historic St Claude Avenue, The Jungle Room at Twerk-O-Phonic Studios boasts state-of-the-1940s-art recording equipment and techniques. Audio is captured via single microphone and the unaltered signal passes only through our vintage/extremely-cool-looking-and-great-sounding preamp before continuing directly into our main recording lathe; a 1938 Presto K8.
3 minutes. One take per side. Recording within the limits of 3 minutes, without the safety nets of overdubs, pitch correction or other post-processing, compels the performer to strip songs down to their bare necessities and consider what is truly important to the music. No fancy punching in and punching out, just a short moment of time, captured purely as it happens.
