For the set for the 1945 and 1957 scenes, we rented an in South Kingstown, Rhode Island. A Charming 1906 Farmhouse, the house is situated on 40 private acres and a horror movie should definitely be filmed there. Though, we should’ve waited a couple more weeks for the weather to be warmer so we could have avoided the gas generator.

In the first photo, you can see the finished scene and in the second photo, what we started out with before got her hands on it!

My favorite piece of trivia is that the Christmas tree is from a farm in upstate Vermont that Steph chopped down herself.

For our first “The Candy Tin” crew thank you, we would like to extend our immense thanks to Stephanie South (), our incredible production designer.

Not many production designers would take on the herculean task of creating six different time periods from 1927 to the present at a total of seven different locations. But Steph did. And she did it with the utmost professionalism and positivity. During pre-production, she was creative and supportive in assessing the locations, acquiring extremely varied props, and keeping the sheer number of props and set design organized across six different excel spreadsheets. During production, she always kept a positive attitude and a level head while working tirelessly to turn our varied locations back in time. We couldn’t have asked for a better production designer.

To highlight her incredible work, we’ll take a look at the first of what I would say are her three greatest achievements on set.

For the 1927 scene to open the film, we shot at the historic 1856 Country Store in Centerville, Massachusetts on Cape Cod. My mother visited it as a kid to get penny candy and I did the same thing as a kid. In the second photo, you can see what the Country Store normally looks like.

The mission was to turn the modern country store into what it would have looked like in 1927. Steph designed and printed out vintage posters to adorn the walls, identified the old-time candies and products that would fit back then, and took apart the wall and re-arranged it.

That night was a late night and in the third photo, you can see Steph and Chris Goodwin working on the set.

The fourth photo is the result of Steph’s hard work, which I would say is a scene that’s the bee’s knees!

Thank you Steph!
