The sticky web of ego, fame, and power can lead to the creation of some of the greatest film in the history of cinema, and it can also lead to scarring abuse, trauma, and career ending casualties. Alfred Hitchcock represents all of these things and I wonder if he were alive today, if despite his immense talent, if his reputation would withstand the harsh judgement of so-called “cancel culture”. I’m researching Lana Del Rey this week and forming an episode on a female artist’s influence and influences coming to life in three different stories involving four incredible women; 1) Gemma Grant in a modern-day Lolita/Bonnie and Clyde true crime manhunt 2) Catherine The Great, the insatiable badass royal 3) Cheryl Turner, Lana Turner’s 14-year-old daughter in a classic Hollywood thriller involving the justifiable murder of gangster Johnny Stompanato and 4) Lana Del Rey, whose music and myth building as an artist is reflective of all these true crime stories from the dark side of history and entertainment.
