‘Bassheads on a Budget’ circa 2023…

- Kenneth Kilpatrick Jr.

“I've been meaning to address this group for a very long time. I've noticed theres a lot of newbies to car audio giving advice in here and 99 percent of it is incorrect. The name of this group is Bassheads On A Budget not newbies with incorrect theories. Being a 2 time World Record Holder I thought I'd give you guys some free tips. #1 buy subwoofers with smaller magnets. Everyone I see is trying to put 600 watts on some mackdaddy 800 lb subs wondering why its barely moving and why they keep burning stuff up. Efficiency is the key. #2 airspace is your friend. I dont care that your sub specs said 2 cubes and neither do the laws of physics. The people who are hitting the real numbers throw spec sheets in the trashcan. The larger the enclosure the Louder the bass. If you dont believe me look at how much airspace the loudest systems in the world have. Hence DB DRAGS. #3 Stop trying to run 1 ohm on 8 guage amp kits with a factory alternator and no extra battery. It's stupid it dont work and it's how you burn equipment up. The basic budget build should be a 4 guage amp kit with no more than 2000 watts. A nice budget marine battery from Walmart $100. Invest in a volt meter you can watch while you're playing your system. Never let it get below 12.4 volts while you're playing it. Some amplifiers can handle a 2 ohm load if you have your electrical right but dont try running 1 ohm for hours. 1 ohm should only be for burps at competitions unless you have upgraded everything electrical. Even then equiptment doesnt like 1 ohm long. #4 Never play a stereo system with the car off. #5 Dont play it loud with the trunk open. #6 ground things properly. Remove painted surfaces and tighten grounds properly. #7 Stop using P.A. Speakers for music. They sound like garbage. A P.A. speaker is meant for public address aka human voice so it is designed to reproduce and amplify the human voice talking not music. It sounds stupid and you can hear distortion like crazy. Instead if you must place speakers on the outside of your vehicle then use marine 6.5 speakers in the grill. They can get wet allday too and they sound a bazillion times better. Screen shot this as a reference and you can save alot of money and time. Happy Bassing! 🔊🔊🙉”
